Yes, if you don't count the Baton Rouge, Memphis, and New Orleans DMAs with HD news.

So I can now get WCBI, WLOV, and WTVA. But I can not get WKDH, which I could get at night before WTVA made adjustments (before I could not get WTVA) I know that WKDH is Digital only, but is it now at full power?

mcrutland, good luck on seeing any of that happen. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are available in HD, but only if the station has some way to record HD content. So far I don't know of any stations for sure that actually show them in hi def. Maybe NY and LA, but other than that...

They have been shown in hd for a while in Baton Rouge, La.
Also Dr Phil, 2 1/2men, oprah.
New orleans also shows entertainment tonight, & ellen in hd

I was talking with a rep from WLOX - Biloxi at the Miss. Broadcasters' Convention in June and I asked him when he thought they would begin broadcasting local news/programming in HD and he said no sooner than a couple of years....so that would be 2010 and they're one of the larger Miss. TV markets and a Raycom station. He said Raycom was converting some of their larger market stations this year.

where do you work Cz250?

I am not having any luck with WTVA and my 4 bay. I was picking them up when they first came on but now nothing. Guess I will have to add a vhf antenna after all. Anybody having any luck with a 4 bay around Tupelo?

Has WCBI made adjustments to its DT antenna? I was getting it at 80%, but now I get it at 98%! I noticed the DT signal was off the air late Sunday night.

Mcrutland:

have not heard of the station doing anything to our signal. I was told we will not increase power even after the transition. The only thing I can think of for your signal increase is the fact that all the leaves are off the trees, plus cold air means closer molecules in the atmosphere which means better atmospheric conditions for RF.

do you have a VHF/UHF pre-amp? without my RS pre-amp I can not get WTVA.
I do have a vhf/uhf preamp, 25 or 26 db gain on the vhf and 28 on the uhf. Can remember exaclty which it is.
well WTVA DT is down I believe now anyway so getting the signal is a moot point.
help me out here guys...since the other night when the tornadic storms were in the area. WTVA DT as well as their analog has been on and off or their analog has just looked poor for me. last night TADA, it came back for all of 30 minutes. then about 9 something it left again. I worked up in the attic with the antenna for hours trying to get a better WTVA analog. Nothing seems to work. I even went to RS and bought a cheap VHF antenna and it picked up all the UHF's in the market, but did not help pick up WTVA DT or analog. What is the deal? Have they turned down their signal this week?

Same thing happening here.........I'm frustrated!
I wonder if they turned down their signal. what do they care...the cable head ins in the market get their signal with fiber, and Direct TV and Dish network are fibler also because the sat companies have a head in on their roof. that has to be what it is...Wendell Robinson over at WTVA will not answer my e-mail.

figured it out....I have a short in my pre-amp. It actucally works betther without the pre and just the amp

I finally got everything working right with my OTA setup. Here's my setup:

I live in tupelo in the Thomas street area.
Radio Shack deep fringe antenna attic mounted pointed at about 200 degrees
Additional mid range antenna pointed at about 2 degrees toward Booneville to pull in PBS-HD
Signals combined into a Channel master pole mounted preamp
Radio shack adjustable distribution amp out to 4 different TV's.
All coax is RG-6 quad shield.

when I used my non adjustable channel master distribution amp, it would over amplify many of the channels, eg. 4-1, 27-1, 45-1, and destroy the signal. Using the radio shack adjustable distribution amp, I was able to tune it to receive all the channels.

I'm getting 4-1 at about 95%, 27-1 and 45-1 at 100%. 9-1 coming in at about 65% and 12-1 coming in at about 50%.

Somebody help me with something.....

As you can see above, I had everything working well and it still is until I try to hook up a RF modulator. I have a camera at my front door and was trying to distribute the signal to all the TV's in the house.

I got a RF modulator from Radio Shack and tried to connect it in line before my distribution amp. When I do this, all my digital OTA channels go away. The analog channels are still there. Do I need to try a different modulator? Does anyone know what the problem is with this modulator? Does it have a filter in it that blocks digital channels?

Can anyone tell me if they are using a setup like this and what you use to get it to work?
Well, I worked on it and got it working, somewhat. I couldn't use the modulator with the OTA being passed through. I finally had to use a splitter to diplex the signal in and amplify the signal coming out of the modulator to make it strong enough to go through the splitter. But this weakened my OTA signals significantly. PBS is now down in the 30% signal strength area, but at least I can see the front door now.

If I understood Terry Smith correctly tonight on Focus, WTVA will have an HD newscast and HD syndicated programming soon.

I think they already have HD cameras in the studio. It seems that the video on their newscasts has improved lately. This should also explain the "Mobile HD Studio."
hmmm...that makes no sense
I meant to TiVo Focus to see if there was any mention of WTVA going to full power and also to see how they are peddling this to the masses. "Call your local cable or satellite provider"...like it is a premium channel. Egregious.

No worry. WTVA has posted it. http://www.wtva.com/flash/focus_dtv.shtml

Notice what Wendall Robinson says around the 4:20 mark about HD newscasts.

HD Newscast in February. I wonder if Wheel of Fortune, Dr. Phil, ect. will be in HD?

In Starkville, about 2-3 days ago, on Metrocast Cable, WTVA-HD channel showed up on the channel listing as channel 404 (but for a few days the channel was not up. Last night was when I first saw it (in 16:9) with Law & Order. Today show this morning looked beautiful. Haven't tried for WTVA-HD it with my rabbit ears since I have subscribed to the HD tier on cable (17 HD channels now) which was 2-3 months ago. The WTVA news was not in widescreen last night.

Anyone in Starkville able to get it OTA?

Taz

Is WTVA broadcasting full power now? Anybody know?

They are broadcasting @ 8.7kw now, but will upgrade to 16kw after the digital transition. That could be on Feb 17 or in June (thanks Obama).
Yes, I get WTVA-DT here in Starkville OTA, but only with an outside antenna. Rabbit ears just don't seem to cut it. UHF stations come in fine with rabbit ears (4-x, 27.1, & 45.1)

Okay, I'm watching the Focus show posted above and two observations immediately stand out:

1) You'd think the news anchor guy could do a better job of explaining the digital transition basics seeing as how he's in the teeveenewz industry and all.

2) Could the picture be any worse?

3) Wendell seems like a nice enough guy. I wish other engineers were willing to go "on screen" or "on mic" to talk about the station.

4) If they're going to do HD newscasts, please PLEASE ditch that horrible set with all the people walking through the background. It's hideously amateurish. The motion and background sound are distracting. And whoever has their cell phone on the set, it's bzzt-bzzt-bzzt bleeding through the audio.

Hey guys. I live in the Booneville area. I have a VHF\\UHF antenna in my attic with a preamp that I can receive WCBI, WLOV AND WKDH. WCBI is ~80%, WLOV ~65%, and WKDH is ~45%. I cannot get WTVA. The analog signal is very fuzzy and I cannot even pick up the digital signal on a scan. It appears that I am picking something up on analog 11 that looks like wtva, but is too fuzzy to tell. Is it possible that I am getting interference from somewhere that is canceling out my signal? Is this channel 11 perhaps a duplicate signal created by the signal "bouncing" off of something that is interfering with my "real" WTVA signal? Forgive me if this is a crazy idea. Thanks for the help.
