This was the first thing I noticed when I observed my first experiment tonight for my newly installed 6412 which appeared today. I didn't know if the box had to be left powered on to operate in "timer mode" (as the 6200 did) or if it was now smart enough to turn itself on and off when needed.
Sure enough, it can now turn itself on. Interestingly, the last station tuned to is what appears, even while the recording of a second channel is going on in the background.
However I, too, was baffled to see the word "mute" across the top of the screen when I checked to see what was happening. So I was watching the last station tuned to, with no sound, while the recorder was quietly chugging along doing what it was supposed to do from the second tuner.
I couldn't figure out how to get rid of "mute" so I had to cancel the recording (it was just a test anyway). But your tip is of great value.
Of course, the easiest solution is just never to turn the box off (at least not until they fix the software bug).
