Acoustic Research- Jewell or Junk?

I was thinking about getting the HiRes15 powered sub (model ars500) with the 500 watt sunfire amp. I found it online for $470 and, after reading about it at their website, it seems like a steal. Of course I'm nowhere near a dealer, so I can't hear it myself. Any opinions on this one??

Absolute Jewels!!

I have the AR9 mains and 308 HO rears with the C25 Center.

Your choice of sub is in reality a Bob Carver Sunfire and is well regarded, so don't let the prices fool you. AR is a better company than ever and as good as most.

Thanks Laurence! It's nice to have a little reassurance, as there seems to be very little about this line out there. I found audioreview not too long ago and really like it a lot. Seem to be some people passionate about HT posting over there. Glad you reminded me about it. I got some good stuff from them on this sub, but there were conflicting opinions about its performance. All in all though, they seemed to like it. Thanks!!

I have that Sub and it is great! Lots of tight bass.

I have just purchased Acoustic Reseach speakers all 'round for the
theatre I'm putting together. I took a pair of my AR 17's bookshelf speakers over to an audiophile friend of my who had never heard AR speaker
and was he ever impressed!. He compared them to his 3k a pair speakers and
the $300 a pair AR 17's held their own against them. He said they had a large sound field and would be great as surrounds(that's what I'm using them for) or for front channels. When I demo'd an AR setup I chose them over the M&K's I was going to buy. Musically and for theatre they are great!. Warren
