Yeah, I'm leaning more towards the ED Panasonic 7UY right now. If I buy the Vizio and have to buy an extended warranty for it as well, that's almost $900 more (delivered) than the ED Panny. I time-shift almost everything and can't afford the initial and monthly cost of an HD satellite DVR, so I bet 95% of my viewing for the next year or so is going to be SD anyway... the HD resolution would go to waste. If next year HD DVD players, HD DVRs, HD programming, etc. are much more widespread, I can just sell the ED Panasonic on Ebay (or move it to the bedroom) and buy a reputable HD plasma at that time - maybe 50" if the price drops that much.
Chinese quality and design just isn't up to par to Japanese products right now, IMO... for example, why do most Chinese DVD players still have a mechanical power switch, and if they happen to have a standby mode, why does it guzzle the same amount of power when off! Granted, a $2300 HD plasma is surely built to better standards and with better components than a $50 Chinese DVD player, but I'm not sure if I want to chance it. After all, a member here (Ann) has had a Byd:sign LCD TV go bad already after very short use.
I still have 2-weeks before I pull the trigger so I could change my mind anytime though! Especially if the PQ of this set is breathtakingly good. :)
