A new law that's in the works may make skipping commercials illegal.

If the MPAA and others get their way, you won't be able to skip commercials in TV programs any more. They are also trying to take other rights away. Read the following article for more information:

Typical of the current administration. Take away rights, take away rights.

So how would this be enforced? Perhaps by removing teh fast forward buttons from all future video players?

Do not worry! The maximum penalty is to be no more than 3-10 years in prison. I feel much better now.

TiVo will annouce they are reducing the allowed commands to "record this show" "pause" and "play", with the "record this show" and "pause" features elimiated over the next twelve to twenty four months.

(it's a joke...I own a TiVo, too)

The worst part is that very few have any knowlegde of this happening, and it will affect very few. Most people don't know how to rip and re-author a DVD to remove the operational limitations or to remove the ads altogether. Me? I re-encode every disc my daughter watches so that the main feature starts immediately without any interaction. She's old enough to know how to put a disc in the player, but ins't quite up on navigating a DVD menu succesfully. (Gimme a break, she just turned two). Guess I'll have to have a false floor in my house for all of her DVDs for when the Feds come to raid the "den of villany" I call my living room.

The Senate has passes its version of this bill, and it fortunately dropped many of the most controversial provisions. Check this article out:

Ignorance is bliss.
The bill was introduced by Senator Hatch(R-Utah) and Senator Leahy(D-Vermont.) This has nothing to do with the current administration.
