question about storage space

on the arq 20 specs it says that the unit holds 350 hours of music. i assume that would be true if all your mp3's were encoded at 128kb? so that would make it good for storing 175 hours at 256kb? Is that correct or is the 350 hours at some other compression rate?

Here's the specs for the ARQ20.
(found @ http://www.request.com/specs.html)

Rate Hours Songs
64 / 700 / 12,000*
96 / 470 / 9,400
128/ 350 / 7,000
160/ 280 / 5,600
192/ 235 / 4700
256/ 175 / 3,500
320/ 140 / 2,800

Go for it...

thanks for the info. i imagine they will come with larger hard drives in the future. i could see myself running out of disk space very quickly encoding everything at 256Kb. I'd love to see them throw a 60 gig drive in one...i would really have fun with 520 hours of high quality mp3's.

I thought the same and have a pretty extensive CD collection as well, but think I'll be fine with 30gb. 30gb should equal 5200 songs @ 256. Realistically, thats approx 375-400 CD's worth of music.

I also encoded several @ 160 and honestly cannot tell the difference between the same song @ 256 when played on the ARQ.
