PLASMA MONITORS

Thread Starter
I WAS CONSIDERING ADDING TWO CRT MONITORS IN ADDITION TO MY FRONT PROJECTION CRT. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY OUT THERE CAN PREDICT WHEN THE PRICE OF PLASMA TVS WILL BE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY 1YEAR,2 YEARS ETC.THE PLASMAS WOULD DEFINITELY LOOK COOLER AND WORK BETTER FROM A DESIGNER STAND POINT. ALSO IF THE PRICES WERE MORE REASONABLE THAN I COULD ADD ONE BEHIND THE ELECTRIC SCREEN FOR CASUAL VIEWING

my prediction- reasonable for the mass market in 5 years.

reasonable for us videophiles is probably more like 2 years.

LJG,
Thats a good question, I think the prices on a standard video panel will come down soon but the monitor displays that are capable of running 80 kHz will be awhile, the 50 kHz panels seem to be coming down a bit now but until R&D finds a way to produce a panel that passes QC without failure the price is going to remain high. I think the larger displays 40" and over will remain at a premium. One of the problem areas is shipping, some shipping companies stopped insuring them and this is driving the cost up also. Doug

Jerry,
I just got the prices for the NEC 42" 16x9 80kHz panel its up there $10,000, we would need 4. But they do it with its own processor. If you can stand for a big cross going threw it. Doug
