On some manufacturer's specifications, I have noticed a "lifetime" category, which indicates that a plasma unit may last between 20,000 - 30,000 hours. I presume this means that plasmas eventually burn out, or their gases dissipate. I suppose even you watch TV 10 hours a day, your plasma can last from 3-6 years.

The question is, if plasmas have only been around for 2-3 years, how can they accurately measure lifetime? Furthermore, wouldn't you think twice about investing in a TV with only a three year life span?
