7se Mk3, with CC 300, PS-1000, & Cambridge Newton rears. Had an Integra DTR 7.1 till it failed, they replaced it with a DTR 7.4 that I'm using. Wish I had a Yamaha RXV-2500.

Studio 100 v2, Studio CC570v3 -- Bryston 5BST (3ch)
Studio 60 V1 -- Bryston 3 BST
Studio ADPV2 --Rotel 2 x 50w
PW2200 sub
Anthem AVM20v2

Started with Denon AV reciever, 60's and CCv2. Then added ADP's and later PW2200. Then added 5BST to drive the 60's and CC. Added 100's and sent 60's to the rear, replaced Denon with Anthem and added 3BST and used Rotel, then replaced CC with CC570. Next upgrade - Rotel amp to Anthem or used Bryston.

Hi Denis,
How big is your room and is the 5BST in your opinion more than enough to drive the studio 100 and the CC570 ?

Bryston is very conservative with their specs. The 3 BST and 5B are rated at 125 W/C but actually deliver a measured 154 w/c. The 100's and 570 are quite sensitive and deliver 91 dB/watt at 1 m. My room is about 16 x 14 and it delivers plenty of juice. I was using the 3BST with the 100's in a 2 ch system and it was terrific. A calculator that was posted here somewhere (I used the formula to make a spreadsheet) predicts that you need 125w to produce 95 dB rms at 15 feet with 3 dB headroom and 91 dB/w. You can listen to 95 dB rms for no more than 4 h per day or you will damage your ears. An increase of 3dB to 98 dB requires a doubling of amp power to 250 w. The 100's are rated at 210 watts max with no more than 10% clipping which you do not want to do. But they state that a suitable amp for the 100s is 15 to 350 w. I need 3 to 8 watts to get my normal listening level of 80 to 85 dB at 12 to 15 feet. The following statement is incorrect "You do need more power when the aliens destroy earth, but that falls under peak SPL which is double the amps power or in this case 300 w peak."

Paradigm Studio 100v3 (front)
Paradigm Studio 570v3 (center)
paradigm Studio 470v3 (surround)

All powered by the Arcam AVR-300, I was using the Krell KAV-250 to power the front channels, but the ARCAM sounded better by itself.

receiver: Marantz SR-7500

gilevans...what do you use..if any, rear speakers? I think the Arcam sound super with the Sig's...at least the smaller Sig's, ie S2's, C3. Very musical. I use this setup for 75% music/multi-ch, 25% movies...Couldn't be happier

Currently looking to upgrade to a seperate amp, but for now...

H/K 510 Powering these
Monitor 7's
CC300
ADP-150
Either PDR12 or PS1200 Cant remember which it is, I just know its a Paradigm 12'.

Now my question is, based on my current setup of speakers, do you guys think I need to upgrade to a 5 ch amp, or just upgrade the front ch amp for the 7's, or go with a 3 ch amp for the 7's and CC300? I dont really think the Adp-150's need any more power than the H/k is giving it already.

Hey Folks, I have a question about Paradigm in-walls.

I am in the process of building a Studio 20/cc470 or 570/ADP470 set up, in a 14 x 24 room, with the front stage on the short wall.

I have noticed with my existing Def. Tech bipolar side surrounds that they could use a little help with center fill of the back surround stage. If I get the same results with the 470s, I planned on going 7.1, adding two more 20s (or upgrading the fronts and moving them back)

As an alternative option, would any of the Paradigm in-walls, used as back surrounds, match the set good enough for what I need? I'm surprised Paradigm doesn't list them as an option in their "systems" page.

Wow, that's interesting! I have a Rotel 1075 as well, plus an Arcam AVP 700. You're saying a 100W Digital Receiver beats it and a Ref 50? How much does the 7100 list for?

I have the Studio 100's v.2 up front. I currently have a Marantz Sr8000 receiver powering them. I am considering adding a 2-ch amp to power the 100s. I have three in particular I'm considering - Anthem Statement P2, Parasound Halo A21 and Bryston 4BSST. Also, in the future I would replace the receiver with an Arcam AVP700 processor.

Does anybody here have any input on any of these three amps to power the 100's? First-hand experience would be helpful. Does anyone have any experience with the AVP700 in combination with the 100's and above mentioned amps?

Thanks for your opions in advance.

I use the Paradigms just for music listening in a 2-ch system.

Studio 100 v2's driven by...

Mark Levinson No. 23 amp
Yamaha C-80 pre-amp
Denon DCD-1560 CD player

Greetings,

Paradigm Reference Eclipse/BP bipolar - L&R
Paradigm Reference CC-470 V.3 - Center
Paradigm Reference ADP - Surrounds
Paradigm AMS - In walls - rear channel center surrounds

B&K Reference 50 Series 2 - SSP
B&K Reference 200.7 Series 2 - 7 channel amp

I love my Eclipse/BP's and have had them since 1997. They were the flagship model of the Reference line at the time.

I have been contemplating moving to the Studio 100's but have been hedging. Anyone have any thoughts?

Regards,

3bsst should be more than enough to drive the studio 100s.

Hey all, I have Studio 40's V.3 CC-450 and cinemas in the rear driven by a Denon 3805
Would a 2 OR even 3 CH amp help the 40's & CC or would it be overkill ?
Is anyone using a digital amp Or anything like a Nuforce amp with the Paradigms ?
I am out of space for a large amp .

Paradigm Reference Studio 100 v.3
Paradigm Reference Studio CC-570

I'm using a Denon AVR-3806 as a pre/pro and now have a Parasound HCA-2205A powering all five channels.

studio 20's v.3
cc-570 v.3
polk audio Fxi5
servo-15

driven by Marantz 7400.

Marantz makes the 20's sing in 2-chnl. have auditioned denon 2100 and yamaha 1400 with this speaker setup but marantz just outperformed in music department. used The Eagles concert dvd to audition for all three setups. yammy was a lil more detailed at the cost of being a lil bright for my taste.

i have listened this setup with a parasound Halo A-23 and it presented a noticeable difference even though 20's are not that hard to drive. my mind is set on going to separates, most probably Arcam 700 /p1000 combo (if i dont spend my savings on something else). otherwise ill just add a good 5-channel amp i.e. parasound A51, Brystons or ARAGON 2005 (if i find it here). ive heard good things abt the Aragon but havent listenend to it. has anyone experienced their paradigms with Aragon ?? would love to hear abt their experience.

I have a pair of Studio 20v3s. When I first did a home audition, with a pair of demos, I tried them on my Aragon 8008BB amp, using a Rotel HT receiver as a pre/pro. Very dynamic with quick bass, the highs were a little too much with certain intense movie scenes, but I think that had to do with speaker positioning, and my room.

Right now I use the Aragon on a pair of Maggies,(for music) and use the Rotel receiver amps on the 20s (for movies). Much different sound, rolled off highs and sometimes muddy bass, and less dynamic. But more of a "forgiving "sound for crappy video material.

Now I have a question for you. I plan on getting a CC-570 center this month. Had you done any comparison between the 470 and 570, as far as which one matches better with the 20s?

After I get my 570 center, I will see how the Rotel drives it's sealed cabniet design. I may stick with Rotel or upgrade to all Aragon, or maybe Anthem. I would like to add EQ to all my front speakers, and can not do that with my present Rotel receiver (no "main-ins").

If the present Klipsch made Aragon equipment is built like my older Mondial made unit, it is good stuff.

well i havent done any comparison b/w 470 and 570 but ill tell u something. i have a room adjacent to the HT room and i remember my bro watching the movie "HEAT" quite loud. the scene where Robert Deniro and Al Pacino talk to eachother in a resturaunt, i could hear them talk and it felt just like if 2 people were in tat room talking to eachother, it was that realistic. .

as far as matching is concerned, i always found the sound to be well blended with 570.
Thanks, I emailed Paradigm about the issue, they said the 570 would match the 20s fine, and give more a detailed bass presentation as compared to the 470.

After I get the center, I plan on trying the 20s with their ports plugged, to see if that makes any difference. The Paradigm tech said this would be ok, but they don't supply a port plug for the version 3 models. Evidently they did offer one for the v2 model.
Why would you plug the port ?
Didn't know much about these things before I came here, but I couldn't be happier with my setup.

See Below.
Bottom line: Don't sell yourself short by pairing your Paradigms with some crappy AV amp. And by 'crap' I mean anything in the neighborhood of a denon 3805, yamaha 2500, marantz 7400 et al. At least borrow a decent integrated or power amp (dual torroids if possible) for a test at least.
It is this sort of thing that shows how self centered a person can be. If you are able to buy better gear then why insult those who can't afford better gear???

There is nothing wrong with Denon's Yammies, or Marantz, infact they do make good equipment. THe Marantz brand sells some of the best seperates on the market that has out standing performance, but I bet younever knew anything about that. Look at their Reference line and you would see that.

Please, lets not be so insulting when you dont have to be.

I responded some time ago and since I just purchased a couple of new amps and did a hardware/software update to my SSP I thought I would repost.

For speakers I still have:

Studio 100s V2
Studio CC V2
Studio ADPs V2 (sides)
Studio 60s V2 (rears)
Servo-15s V1 (I have 2)

For Separates I have:

Lexicon MC-12B V5EQ
Bryston 4BSSTs (I now have 2, one powers the 100's the other powers the 60's)
Bryston 6BSST

Thanks,

Rod
