I hope the Linux experiment is a success. I remember hearing that the early TIVO's used a modified form of Linux to operate the device, so hopefully the Hisense box does as well.
I just connected my DB-2010 to a Sony 32" 4:3 CRT (KV-32HS420) via component inputs. My question is, which display mode gives you the best picture quality, 480p, 720p, or 1080i? I have played around with the settings and seem to get the best results using 480p, which seems wrong.
720p and 1080i modes are way too dark, and I can't get 4:3 stations to fill up the entire screen (black borders on all 4 sides). Part of the problem is that the Sony automatically goes into 16:9 mode when using the component input, and there is no way I can find to prevent this (except by displaying the signal in 480p).
Anyone have experience using this unit with a 4:3 Sony? Also, will I need to go into the service menu to adjust the brightness in 720p and 1080i?
