The 8000 is unable to push out HDTV signal, the 8300 is able to. Also, the 8300 has an HDMI output and an SATA port on the back of it.

It is my understanding that there are technically 4 models: 8000/8300 and 8000HD/8300HD. A major difference, at least between the HD models is that the 8300 has double the capacity of the 8000. 8000HD has an 80 GB drive while the 8300HD has a 160GB drive. Also, yes- the 8300HD has HDMI and SATA connections.

There's also the 8300MR and 8300MRHD ... "MR" = "Multi Room" ... adds a QAM modulator for multi-room viewing via coax on other digital cable STBs.

My 8000 had an 80GB drive, but my 8000HD has a 160GB drive.
