Please do report back when you've seen the rest of the season. Kinda curious if you find it continued great storytelling, or if it does take that tailspin.
i was using storytelling in the sense of "whats gonna happen next?! i can't back into the main menu fast enough to get to the next show!"
there was definitely a spate of epsiodes (i can't remember exactly where it started, maybe CWDT) where the end of every show made me feel like that.
and the next epsiode she comes out and declares that the First is regrouping or stunned or whatever and this should give them a little breathing space to get their stuff together for the big finish.
and, like people had said, for the next handful of eps, there is very little forward motion towards the season arc.
but for me, this wasn't that big of a deal.
the Andrew-centric episode was the only one of the bunch that i can remember fidgeting thru, but even that one was intermittenly amusing, and some of the other 'non event' eps still contained some wonderful, beautiful character moments (like the scene between Dawn and Xander in Potential).
i was quite satisfied with this season, but then i'm a "its the journey not the destination" kind of guy.
and as long as the journey is with characters like this, that remain consistently charming and affecting, i don't mind taking the ride- even if we just go in big circles around the old neighborhood.
it wasn't the best season, and if forced, i would probably plop it right in the middle of my favorites.
there are some killer eps in season 2 but i'm not anywhere near as taken with the season overall as some others are.
for me there is a lot of chaffe to wade thru in the first two seasons.
enjoyable chaffe for the most part, but slight in the big picture.
all i know is i had a blast with this last season and glad i didn't let some nay-sayers deter me from enjoying it.
i probably would have felt differently if i could only watch 40 minutes every week, and then have to wait 4 or 5 weeks to get another 40 minutes.
i think the 'wheel spinning' eps definitely benfit from being able to watch in clusters of 4 or 5 at a clip.
i can see where it would have been slightly frustrating to watch otherwise.
