Imac G5 used with sanyo z-1

I just got a new Imac, which includes iDVD onboard. I just have a couple general questions about using the G5 as a projection source. Any advantages over what I'm already using, which is the Dennon DVD 1600?I know there are all kinds of geeky things you can do with computers in conjunction with projectors but I'm not all that technologically hip. I've played DVDs just using the G5's rather large screen, and that looks pretty good, but I like a big movie image. So, to get started, what do I need? I mean, besides a cable with a Mac adapter, which I've yet to purchase? Is the iDVD software enough to get going and looking good? Gimme all ya got.

Thanks in advance,
Brent

Apple's DVD player blows in 10.3. Get a scaling set top DVD Player. Playback of and Recording of HDTV and Music on the other hand will be fine with the iMac G5 to the projector.

Well, my Dennon DVD 1600 uses the Faroudja DCDi processor, so I guess that's settled. Didn't know you could run HDTV thru the G5, but then I don't have the cable modem which provides this. Think I have to get it from my provider, who is part of my Townhouse Association. Not much yet on HDTV that I wanna see, so ... Thanks for the input.

I didn.t think that iMacs had a video out of any kind. It can handle an external monitor?

The have a mini-VGA port for mirroring. The Z1/Z2 doesn't do higher than 1280x720 which is lower than the native iMac resolution but visible on the iMac so you're covered. No 1920x1080i/p though on an iMac or iBook.

This was a thing that I did not know.

Z1 is 544x964, and the Z2 is 1280x720. If the port is for mirroring, can it handle 16x9 displays or native sizes?

I'm pretty sure SwitchRes will need to be involved with the iMac to enable other resolutions. The tech specs only list 4:3 timings for output though all iMac G5s feature widescreen displays.
