I-O Data AVeL LinkPlayer2 FAQ - Page 47

Anyone still got the firmware files up to and including the October 05 firmware? I have a new Linkplayer 2 box (from eBay - people STILL sell them!) and it needs bringing up to a usable level. October 05 is the one I use on my other Linkplayers but ANY available .BIN would keep me happy since the Taxan/IOData is down.

Thanks for your help

Yes I would love to get the Oct 05 firmware as well. I cannot find it anywhere.

Links posted here still work. Someone mentioned Firefox might work better.

Just send a PM with your email, and I can send the files and the procedure.

Hello Fellow Avel Linkplayer2 owners--

I have a question about .TS files. I have downloaded a few .TS streams (1080i format) from the Web that are HDTV recordings of TV shows, etc. They play great on my Avel Linkplayer2 unit.

My question is -- how can I create a playable TS file on my player from an MKV or M2TS file? I don't want to use the network feature to do it. I usually connect an external HD to the player.

Is there any software out there that will work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!! I just bought a Pansonic 50" Plasma 720p and want to watch some HD content on it.

HALP!!!!

If you want permanent copies of the file saved after viewing, best bet would be convert it to XVID format using MediaCoder (free).

If you want to just view it once, google for the AVLink Advanced Server that will transcode on the fly.

Actually, since the AVLP2 doesn't play MPEG-4 (H.264), you're going to have to re-encode such streams as MPEG-2 to play them.

Thanks. What program do you recommend I use? Don't want to use MediaCoder -- it stalled for me.

I have Super and Gotsent that I guess can do that job. Anything better? I want to convert to an MPEG-2 file that is of the highest quality that Avel Linkplayer 2 could handle.

Since IODATA has pretty much dumped this product... what is the latest server software for it? Is there any 3rd party software still being developed?

Thanks.

Try WIZD. It's open source and works much better than IOData's software.

Hmmm, looks like that development is pretty dead too... last update 2006. Any active ones?

I saw in a prior post that we can play MKV files by editing the Advanced Server server-config.xml file, telling it to transcode the MKV files. I tried editing that file (with Notepad++) but still get the "Unknown Format" error on my LinkPlayer. Here is what I did:

First i tried this entry which didn't work:
Code:
Then I tried this, and it still didn't work:
Code:
I don't have the instructions for Advanced Server, so I'm operating blind here.

I have the necessary Codecs installed and can play MKV files with MediaPlayer on the computer running Advanced Server. Can anyone tell me what changes need to be made to the config file. Much thanks.

Nevermind. Ignore my post above. I was editing the wrong server-config.xml file. Apparently, regardless of what drive you install Advanced Server on (mine is installed on the D: drive), the config file is placed on the C: drive in the user's "Application Data" folder.

And, by the way, the correct edit is: . If you have the proper CODEC installed, you can play MKV files, but you cannot FF or Rewind. I set my output bitrate at 8000 Kbps, which gives me visibly better resolution than the default setting.

Swiss Center looks like it's still being looked after, and has quite a lot of advanced features. swisscenter.co.uk - I might just have to try installing it to see how much better (or not) it is than the old WIZD install I'm using.

If I put a Blu-Ray DVD drive in one of the computers on my network, is there any way to stream it to my entertainment center where my JVC-SRDVD100U is?

One thing I have noticed about ps3 media server http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1085772 is that shows edited with h2 do not have the lipsync issue so I don't have to pause and hit play to get back in sync on the linkplayers like I do on the advanced server.

Although last night it wouldn't play one of the files I had cut commercials out of so I did watch that one on advanced server. They all seemed to play without an issue on the ps3 - maybe that was resetting them for playback on other devices like the linkplayers?

My linkplayer finally died.

What's the new best solution for playing network files on my TV?

Does the C200 play back the LinkPlayer Server apps or the Wizd?

I actually have a new one in box as a backup to sell.

Great.

Actually there is one feature in Wizd I have not found in ANYTHING else. That is the "shuffle" playback of video (including subfolders of the current folder).

Does YAMJ do that and also does it run on Win7 64 bit as well as Win2000? Thanks.

Can someone post server installation binaries for windows and linux please? iodata.com site is offline for a while...
Google WizD and use that. Much better than the stuff that shipped with it.

Has not been updated for many years, and may not work on Windows 7 I assume
