The Official Samsung 360 720P bug thread - Page 3

Not sure I want to spend the money for the Hughes DVR. My folks have the RCA 210 and I was watching it tonight, SD channels looked good into their 30" Toshiba HD CRT via component. I read a review here that didn't like SD on the RCA. What to buy?

Dealing with Level 1, while they try to be helpful, is very painful and I don't foresee solving the problem with them.
Have a buddy at the D* BC in L.A. They are aware of the problem and are working a fix. Don't know when it will happen though. Sure is great to spend all this $$ and not be able to watch ESPN-HD without getting ticked. Keep calling and complaining!!!

Jim, based on your comment about the buddy at D*; would you agree that it is a transmission issue and not a 360 hardware issue? The fact other brands aren't reporting this does concern me.

I can assure you that it is a problem with the 360. I don't have this problem on my Hughes or my Sony receiver.

I'm leaning toward it being the box....based on what everyone else is saying and what he at D* has told me. I mentioned the errors to him a week or so ago and he had already knew. He has since taken my complaint along with captions from avs and forwarded them up the chain. I'm told their "Technology" Dept is working it. Apparently they are working on it being a software download rather than a hardware fix.

I noticed during tonight's NFL 'cast tearing during the actual game appeared in the thumb while surfing the guide. I hadn't noticed that one before.
Thanks Jim. At least a software download beats a hardware issue. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I have these problems as well. To counter their inevitable "hard boot" troubleshooting tips I did all that in advance and even tried it on another TV so I had all the answers. My primary HD set is an RPTV that I use 1080i. The second set was an LCD where I used 720p. The result was the same regardless. After telling him all that the guy put me on hold and came back to say "we're working on it."

I have to believe it's a software fix. There's obviously a timing issue decoding 24fps film at 720p because there aren't any problems with 24fps 1080i or 60fps 720p.
I agree with komoman, from all I've read it's a fps decoding issue. Hopefully the hardware can accept a download fix to correct the problem.

i called on xmas morning to find out about the HD locals being down in the NYC area then inquired why my 360 is doing this. CSR said that they are aware of the situation and are working on a software fix.

i'm going to call and complain to see if they'll give me a 300 credit towards the HD tivo.

Myself, and others have the same problem with ESPN-HD via D* and ABC OTA. The only thing that these have in common are the 360 and 720p. My Hughes E86 and RCA DTC 100 work fine. I have another 20 days for them to fix the problem or I am returning the unit. I am already shopping for a replacement but other than the $1,000 HD Tivo their is not much else available.

OK, I need everyone's advice. Just left Tweeter. I can get the DLP4674 and the Denon 2910 for about four under retail (I think I can post that this way) and the 360 with free delivery. Should I take a chance on this. Tweeter gives you a 30 period where I think I can get them to take the 360 back if the problems not resolved. Wondering if D* will fix this eventually. Also based on other forum members comments think I will call D* and see what kind of deal they'll cut me to purchase my own receiver. really don't want this TV without HD and I like the features of the Samsung, assuming the issue is resolved. Thanks.

I get a lot of the same flickering and lip sync issues using this box on ESPN-HD film material. This is my second TS360. The first was replaced, under my protection plan insurance, after a software update caused some problems.

I don't want another TS360, and I am quite sure that if I call and complain again, that's what they will send me. I also have no desire to pop for an HD tivo at this time, so what are the chances of getting a different box from D*TV soon?

For what it’s worth, the TS360 has been a terrible box. I’ve been mistakenly running it at 720p for the longest time and the picture quality is horrible. I find that Native 1 is the only way I can even stand to watch this box as my HLP5063w seems to have a much better de-interlacer/scaler chip then the one on the TS360. My only annoyance is that when changing channels in the native 1 format I sometimes loose the picture completely and have to attempt the change again. Either the TS360 can’t figure out what format to display the signal in, or the combo of the Samsung TV and STB are not talking to each other well over the DVI cable. One would think that these two would be perfectly matched. One would be wrong.

Cross post from the 165 thread as I asked about the 360 issue and SteveP replied:

"Let us know what results you get, if you would."

I reveived a e-mail from SteveP tonight after work, it was version .125, I plan on trying it soon, most likely not tonight.

On another matter, I asked about the D* ESPN-HD / FOX-HD stutter issue on the 360's, he said they also know about it but seems they think it's a D* problem somehow.

I tend to agree, D* is doing something the 360 does not like, and I've seen this with other receivers mostly OTA stuff where the stations get something wrong with the PSIP streams or their encoders barf big time. FWIW and FYI.

Keep in mind this is mostly my opinion other than what Steve actually said about the 360 issue. YMMV..........

Just got off the phone with D*

They've had several calls regarding this issue and are working on it. According to the tech I spoke with, it has been escalated to the broadcast point. They have the programmers looking at it. It's too early to give me a timeframe but they said that it'll either be fixed on their side, or they'll send a software update.

They turned on their 360 and duplicated the problem immediately.

I asked about replacing the unit, they said at this point they're not sure if it's a hardware issue because some of the reports came from customers using different models. I should have asked which models, prob all sammys, but I didn't.

They're also looking into the ESPN problems.
ADD ME TO THE LIST--I JUST BOUGHT THIS THING A FEW DAYS AGO AND NO COMPLAINTS SO FAR EXCEPT FOR THE ESPN/FOX Issues. ITS NOT HAPPENING ON LIVE EVENTS...just shows and ESPN MOVIES. WTF?
I have the 360 and have the same problem with movies on ESPN and with House on FOX. Hopefully this will get fixed. :)

Just got off the phone with D*.

I logged a complaint on the 25th regarding my sammy 360 so called in to check the status. First i talked to a csr who immediately gave me showtime for free until the end of march, i didn't even ask. She then transferred me to 2nd level tech. he didn't know much about it so i told him i wanted a supervisor because i want a new rec'r. supervisor knew about the problem put me on hold and came back in a minute and said they have a download to fix it and they are going to push it through to me. unfortunately i'm not home to check to see if it worked i'll post later tonight if it works. i'm not sure if they're planning on pushing this out to everyone or you have to call and request it. but it sounds promising, at the least give them a call and they might offer you something (prem channel or a credit).

So... for people about to buy a receiver and are now wary of Sammy 360... what are the alternatives for decent HD receivers to buy? any recommendations?
Checked at lunch, NADA on any update..........
Too funny. I just called D* with my complaint, hoping to get the firmware update scfa99 has alluded to. Spent an hour on and off hold with different departments. One lady even took down the URL to this thread. Finally was told that it is a known issue, but that it is actually with ESPN-HD, not my equipment. I tried to re-explain that the issue is not ESPN-HD as their other HD hardware (LG Electronics LSS-3200A and Hughes HR10-250) do not experience the issue, as well as the fact that the problem is not confined to ESPN-HD, but any 720p feed at 24 or 30fps and that they can check it out themselves as soon as some content comes on today at one of those rates. I had to get off the phone at that point, so I'll be calling again tonight during primetime, as FOX will have some shows on in HD then. Wish me luck.

Hey scfa99, please let us know what firmware rev is running on your TS360 when you get home and check it out. Thanks!
Add me to the list as well. I have the Samsung 360 and I experience the same things on FOX-HD and ESPN-HD. I certainly hope they do have a software fix for this. I really don't want to go out and buy a different receiver and I shouldn't have to because this is something that D* should be fixing themselves.

Sorry to get everyone's hope up. Just got home and no new download. So i called D*, spoke for about 20 mins with a very competant 1st level CSR. i had to walk him through the problem even though its documented in their notes but he was pretty thorough and even checked to see if he could see the problem on their end. He said that the email request was in the system for the new download and was escalated but he said it usually takes 24-48hrs before its sent out. He also said that they will probably send it out to anyone else that is in my area with the same box. He told me to call back on the 30th if its not updated. I am now being transferred to a resolution supervisor, he is going to research and call me back tonight. I'll post if i find out anything useful.

Firmware version 1.2.16 (still), I've had that forever, besides I still think it's in their (D*) encoder(s) as I said before I had the same thing with two different brand receivers on a local OTA station, actually worse than D*'s Fox and ESPN HD's if you can believe that, later they either fixed or replaced it, all is well with the local Ch 67-1 now.

The "sofware fix" may be to their stuff not our's? Opinion only, YMMV. But we soon will see, the show that was on now (Ch 88 Fox) seemed ok but was SD.

I watched parts of the rebel billionaire and everything was fine, House is unwatchable. This is ridiculous! At least the sports programming is okay, that's why I got HD!
Same here, guess rebel billionaire isnt in 720p 24/30fps? House is indeed unwatchable here too.

Talked to the people in Extended Support (aka Advanced Tech Support) and asked that they attempt to reproduce the issue there, as they apparently have for other people in this thread previously. They did, and tried to tell me it was the station not my receiver, which, "it may be, but why dont your other approved receivers have this problem?" I asked. So they checked the other receivers they had and, of course, the problem wasn't observed. They then said they would escalate the issue to Engineering for resolution. I mentioned that I've had the problem since I subscribed to the HD package (1 month) and I wasnt too keen on paying for a service that didnt allow me to watch any feeds at the specific rate in question. They offered to give me a credit and Showtime for 3 months.

I highly suggest everyone experiencing this issue:

a) Call Extended Support at 888-713-7772 and lodge their complaint.
b) Sign the petition at www.**************.com/ts360

The more visibility this issue gains, the quicker we can count on a favorable resolution, and at least you'll get free Showtime for a bit!

Cheers to Jeremy for creating the petition!

Just got off the phone with them and they very aware of the problem and they are working on it.
I guess for now just sit back and see what happens. And enjoy and be grateful for what you do have.
For those of us who have already called in, yes, sit back. But anyone who hasnt, I still suggest they call in and make it well known how widespread this issue is (in case they dont already realize that every single customer of theirs with a TS360 has this problem). Dont you agree?

Gunny I agree, keep the calls coming. The more pressure the sooner they will fix this. I for one want to watch 24 in HD.

Update: the supervisor called me back as promised last night. He said he needs more time to research and his shift is ending so he will research in the morning and call me back once he figures out what is going on. I forgot to check this morning to see if anything was pushed through to my rec'r but i'll check tonight when i get home.
