Charlotte, NC - OTA - Page 156

For those of you who have Samsung TVs and don't really care for the lame firmware in it, here is an option for you.

Update: Guess someone has.

We use the HDHomerun ran to an old iMac in our office. Using EyeTV software it records all my OTA channels, then encode it to AppleTV. I then use an AppleTV to view it on our main TV. Only downside is that we have to wait for the encoding to finish, so no catching a middle of a show and skipping though to live. Quality is decent.

-----------------------------------------------

As of 5:00 a.m. on April 1, WBTV will no longer carry ThisTV on our digital channel 3.3.

WBTV has enjoyed our partnership with ThisTV, but at this point 2012 it is necessary for us to create space on our digital tier for commencement of our mobile service.

ThisTV is working on solidifying a partnership with another digital station in Charlotte, continue to monitor your local listings for more information.

Personally, I liked ThisTV better than Bounce.

Really great decision there WBTV to keep Bounce, and bounce ThisTV.

I personally think the decision, along with Bounce TV, sucks.
I get Bounce TV on two different stations down here, and it is such a waste of bandwidth. I doubt it will last for very long anyway. It sucks is right.

I sent an E-mail to WBTV's Director of Programming yesterday. In the E-mail, I asked if This TV was removed for good, and if they would consider adding TheCoolTV to channel 3-3 if it was. That was before I found out they dropped the third subchannel for their mobile DTV service. This is the reply I received today:

Thank you very much for your email, we appreciate the feedback.
WBTV was disappointed to discontinue our partnership with ThisTV. We are confident that station will land on another digital channel soon.
Please continue to check local listings for it!
Best Regards,
Shelly

You know, when Bounce was first announced a year ago, it was speculated here that ThisTV would be given the boot.

It would be my guess that Bounce is here to stay. Given the very public way that Raycom announced that it was the first to carry Bounce, the statements from the NAB about the importance of "niche" programming, and the fact that Bounce is owned by Martin Luther King III & Andrew Young, it isn't going anywhere soon. At least it sounds like a counter to the idiot running the FCC who wants to give TV spectrum to the phone companies.

It sure would be nice if WSOC would do something about providing at least one subchannel on it's main (aside from that silly weather channel) or on channel 64 where there is essentially no programming at all. Maybe they haven't yet learned about weather on the internet. I can push one button on my remote and almost instantly Weather Underground is displayed on the TV with the 5 day forecast, current radar and satellite, current temperature from the nearby weather stations, and any messages from the NWS.

I was hoping that WJZY/WMYT would be bringing another new channel to the area like TheCoolTV instead of back filling one that was removed.

The only thing I ever watch on the WRAL-ThisTV is Mr. Ed and the WRAL 7pm news if I miss it at 6 or the W-S Dash on the WXII-This. But since none of those programs are on the "real" feed of This TV, I suppose I wouldn't miss it if WRAL or WXII dropped it. I have never heard of Soul of the South Network. It doesn't look all to interesting, but more free TV is always good. I wonder if Raleigh or Greensboro stations will pick it up.

I would have chosen This TV over Bounce, but Raycom made the decision to carry Bounce on all of its stations and is apparently dropping This. Are they still carrying This TV on WIS-10 in Columbia?

Whaa? You mean you just can't run down to Walmart and pickup a TeeVee subchannel package and put it on the air?

Perhaps WCNC could pick up This TV and drop that boring Live Well channel on 36.2.

Yeah that would be a nice change. Belo does carry This on their station in Phoenix.

Interesting WBTV News at 10PM Monday, broadcast on both 46.1 WJZY and 55.1 WMYT. The MyTV 12 WMYT logo was displayed on both channels. The news portions were identical but commercial breaks were totally different.

Jumping back and forth between WJZY (1080i) and WMYT (720p), I couldn't detect any difference in PQ.

I happen to like the Live Well network.

I also like the weather channel on 9.2.

Yep...just because someone doesn't like a particular program service doesn't mean everyone else feels the same.

I noticed that on WBTV News at 5:54 tonight, they did a promo for the WBTV news at 10PM on myTV12. This stinks as I'm planning to drop DirecTV soon and will be strictly OTA. Being that I'm in Hickory and soon Conover, I will not be able to tune in WMYT.

According to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMYT-TV...
"On April 9, 2012. WBTV moved its 10 PM newscast to WMYT-TV's from its sister station WJZY. It will be simulcast by both stations for one week, then on April 16, 2012, Law & Order: Criminal Intent will replace the simulcast on WJZY.[1][2]"... So I guess it's a permanent change I wonder if WCNC will once again produce a 10PM newscast on WJZY.

No more 10:00 news on WJZY. They believe they will get better ratings from sitcoms, as that WBTV produced program is the 3rd rated 10pm newscast. So they are moving it to WMYT which is a lower rated channel. Bottom line, it has to do with advertising revenue.
I'd think they would do better with ratings if they dropped that news all together and put on some wrestling and/or the roller derby.

On a different note, I was surprise to see a TWC ad on channel 3 where they were pushing their internet as being good for streaming Netflix. Maybe they have seen the future of cord cutting and are moving to embrace it.

Since the news is history, I would vote for the Roller Derby.

I used to watch that every day when my son was a toddler.

I am not a fan of wrestling, but I love to see the men and women
beat the crap out of each other while skating.

I know it's all a matter of personal preference. But I would bet Belo would get higher ratings with This on their subchannel versus the Live Well network. I can see WCNC with my long range antenna but I never tune into 36.2. Our local NBC affiliate here, WXII, has shown This on 12.2 for years.
Speaking of Belo ... The new graphics on WCNC look good, but not sure if they have any immediate plans to upgrade their news to HD. Perhaps eventually.

Anybody around the Hickory area now getting a strong signal from WMYT 55?

Noticed over the last few days that the signal level has gone from basically not watchable to a 80 to 85 signal level. I also noticed that WHKY 14 signal level has dropped about five points or so. Any insight to what is going on with WMYT? I hope it's permanent because I really enjoyed WMYT programming.
