Any word on what it costs to fix one of these puppies? Looks like a power supply problem from what I can tell.

Worst case scenario, there has to be a market for the expansion cards, right?

I just purchased the HDMI input module that will fit in both the NR1000 and Integra Dtr-10.5 receivers.
Only $341.49! NJ has a nice sales tax.........

Called 1-800-229-1687 to get the module part number; I imagine you could get other modules if needed.

Called 973-633-8715 to order it...........now thinking maybe I should cancel order and find another service center in a different state that has less of a sales tax!!!!

Colorado has the only other service center.
Does anyone have a list of the modules that were/are available for the Integra DTR-10.5 and the Onkyo NR1000?

Does anyone know the firmware updates (if any) for these models?

Peace, Love, and Understanding

I have 7 of the modules, I think there is one more at least:
I-Link
HDMI
Dual 7.1 Multi-Channel Inputs
Component Video Input with BNC connectors
Component Video Input with RCA connectors (not sure why I have both)
Net Tune
HD Radio (has the ability for Sirius and XM Radio also)

My firmware was supposedly just upgraded by the NJ Service Center:
Master Version 2.0
I Link Version 1.02
Net Tune Version 1.0 (this one doesn't seem like it was upgraded)
HDMI Version 1.0

I think it has been 3 1/2 weeks since you posted so you probably know all of this now, but just in case you were still wondering.

A multichannel card for pro gear AES/EBU. and that was it other than the newer tuner card to replace the older unit.

Hi guys. Still hanging in there with the TX NR1000 and loving it. Except for the obvious disappointment.... Future proof my A#@.

Does anyone know how good the headphone jack electronics are in the 1000? I am picking up a set of Sennheiser HD600 and they recommend a headphone amp. You would think in a receiver that listed for $5,000 that they should have solid headphone electronics.

Anyone????

Any thoughts on the NR1000 still being a viable machine in the up and coming age of 3d?
If I let my future 3d tv handle the decoding and use it's hdmi inputs as the main hub for source selection and upscaling will imputs of the nr1000 handle the lossless formats from blueray or be at all suitable for the upcoming 3d cable channel offerings? I heard that a receiver must have preamp imputs for blueray preamp outs to plug to and that the optical inputs are not suitable. Onkyo site specs don't list this machine as having a full boat of 7.1 preamp imputs. I like the hdmi idea of less wires and all but I am not really after upscaling and fancy stuff at the receiver/amp level. So main question I guess is am I going to loose some of the pure audio capability of blue ray by using this machine? Same question goes for the tv/cable source?.. I mean does current broadcast hd cable put out audio formats now or in near future that will require the higher hdmi 1.4 as far as audio goes? Is tv optical outs going to be suitable?

ps- Here is link to picture of what the thing has on back..
http://www.us.onkyo.com/zoom.cfm?cla...er&m=TX-NR1000
Wondering what bank 4 is on back of the unit..Can't quite make it out on 200% page zoom..lol. Looks like they might be the preamp leval imputs for the 7.1? If so does that suffice if a blueray or tv or cable box has matching outputs?

The TX-NR1000 has HDMI 1.0. See: Link

This is still the best receiver Onkyo has made within the last 10 years. Their last receiver with good all channels driven bench test results that were at least 90% of onkyo's rated specs. The real power bench tests for their current receivers are pathetic to say the least.
Thanx.. I browsed that link and sucked out another that almost answers my questions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_TrueHD
Under the 'transport' section it says plenty.
The ability for HDMI 1.0 to get me the decoded lossless compared to sending the undecoded lossless is fine for me. This still leads to a few followup questions though.....

Does modern 3d blueray have at least 2 hdmi outputs?
(The 1 required to get the 1.4 hdmi video to tv and 1 to get the decoded lossless over to the receiver.)
And if not does the nr1000 have the 7.1 preamp imputs or not?
Seems if answer to both is no then I would need to know if the blueray playes can be forced to always decode before sending over HDMI 1.4 to tv or do they default to pure bitstream. Forced decoding would imply I could send the decoded lossless back out from tv to receiver keeping me with my desired setup of using tv as the main hub.
If it works without sync problems I fail to see much advantage of going with fancy new receivers unless they are to do all the hub and upscaling type work.

Bump.. so who would pay $450 for one of these? Is that too high these days being they abit dated?
$450 is a steal of a deal for this receiver. I normally see them going for around $650 on ebay. And slightly higher than that on Audiogon.

Shucks..I think someone else got it. Lady gave directions to someone else first and told me she would call me back if they don't take it. It's new ' early bird' owner probably show up here shortly.
...Another option for me would be a Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH but am thinking it wouldn't compare to NR1000 amp section and it's asking price which wouldn't include any kind of warranty might cause me to turn my attention to just getting a brand new Denon AVR-1911 for full on 3d ability, front heights, etc.... hmm, decisions, decissions.

That Pioneer Elite's amp section will not compare to the Onkyo TX-NR1000. We are talking about one of the best if not the best amp section onkyo has ever included in one of their avrs.

Yea but the plot thickens...Another guy tells me in another thread that I can't do what I want to do as he says tv's don't pass audio hdmi. ..ouch
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1#post18759331
Then in this other thread Mcode mentioned basically that I would be back to squarre one of having to change source selections on the various equipments if we hook up 3d bdp hdmi one to video display and one to receiver.:

I don't want to have to do that. I can live with all the wires but no longer can I deal with multiple dties in sorce selecting with all the kids around here. Looks like this tpe equipment is dead for general family use. As much as I hate it I will have to go with modern stuff.

To each his own. I can understand the fact that the 1000 not being able to process HDMI might be a deal breaker for you. But I will leave you with this warning. Most of today's modern receivers will only put up half of what their stated power specs list in all channels driven mode. That means you will be getting half of the "real power" of this receiver for double the price. Now if certain bells and whistles are essential to your setup I can understand your willingness to pay more. But just understand that in terms of actual hardware you will not come close to owning any receivers of this quality with an amp section as powerful as this one.

Would like to tap into the collective wisdom of AVS on the following problem with my TX-NR1000:

There is a significant delay, from 10 sec to some times 30 sec from the time I change the volume with my remote control to the time new audio volume kicks in on speakers. Resulting in all sorts of annoying issues. This trouble seems the worst when using my TimeWArner cable remote but seems to also exist with Onkyo's own remote and even with the knob control.

Problem/delay is reduced when powering down the Onkyo box. Onkyo hotline contacted several times and they ask to send for repair but find this to be a huge chore...

All pointers/thoughts on how to fix this is really appreciated.

Thanks,
Henry

I have an Onkyo TX-NR1000. After pushing very hard during a party one night, The Next day my kids turn it on and after it running for about an hour it went into protect mode then shut off. It had a smell of some electronics burning. It will no longer turn on All the fuses I could find are good. The small power supply for standby power is supplying power. anyone have any ideas Thanks Rick

Hello I bought the Onkyo TX-nr1000 in the U.S. and live in
Europe. I would like to download the latest version firmware if it is
possible to send the mail the latest version of the firmware.

I own the Integra version of your receiver and the only way I know to upgrade the firmware on that machine is to send it in to the service center. Check to see if there is a service center in Europe or one other way of thinking is not to worry about any firmware updates, just enjoy it because I'm not sure I can tell any difference from the firmware updates I had, and I think the clowns missed one of the updates anyway. Then you also have to worry about any damage that shipping might do there and back. If there is a service center that you can drive to though, then consider it. Enjoy your receiver, I love mine.

I'm considering purchasing this for my 3D LED setup. I know about the lower grade HDMI 1.0 output for this receiver. But here's a question, to go around this problem wouldn't it be sufficient to connect my 3D Blu-ray player HDMI 1.4 directly to the TV and run a digital audio optical cable out from the Blu-ray player to the Onkyo 1000 receiver?
Video will work and optical audio will work for legacy codecs, but not for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master. For these, you could use multichannel outputs from your Blu-ray, if so equipped, to your multichannel inputs. Distance and crossover settings are typically pretty basic from the player, but is an option.

Can you explain what you mean by multichannel outputs from my Blu-ray?
Your player may or may not have multichannel analog outputs with RCA type terminals. These are separate outputs for each speaker and may be 7.1 or 5.1. If so equipped, the player does the codec processing in the player. Your distance settings and speaker crossovers must be configured in the player, though these generally do not offer the finer settings of receivers and prepros when optical, S/PDIF, or HDMI can be used.

I have an issue on my Onkyo with my DirectTV receiver. I have HDMI out from the DirectTV HD DVR receiver to the TV and a Digital Optical Audio out to the Onkyo TX-NR1000. But I have no audio coming out from the speakers. I have a 3D blu-ray player hooked up same way and works. So it must be Onkyo not talking right with the receiver. I tried Optical bank 2 and 3. My blu-ray is occupying Optical bank 1. Any ideas anyone?

Nevermind I figured it out. I have the Digital Optical cable hooked to the Optical slot 2 and found out its audio is under the CD mode. So I renamed the CD to Direct TV. Now another weird thing happened when I was changing listening modes using the front knobs on the receiver. The display went blank with no lights but sound was emitting. Ever happened to anyone?

Hi
I am trying to find a solution to be able to play SACDs and DVD Audios to my TX NR5000. I have an SP 1000, which was perhaps top of the pops a few years ago but now sincerely lags a bit behind ... and starts to show some real unstability, especially with the I-link connection. And by the way, it seems there is a clock problem between the two which made taht some SACDs are actually read with significant noise. Onkyo never was able to find a solution for me on this one !!!!
Issue I have is that most of the universal players on the market today (Oppo, ...) require at least HDMI 1.1 ... and that the "futureproof, module built, upgradable" NR5000 is stucked in HDMI 1.0, without possibility to transfer hi def sound other than through the
At the same time, the receiver still sounds beautiful (coupled to my Focal Beryllium speakers) and it would be a pity to can it, even if a few years old.
Any idea what to do ? (other than throwing away this one and buy a new one, which perhaps won't have the same quality in the ammplification section ...)
I use the multichannel inputs and an Oppo BDP-103 it works very well.
