Using VHS tape in the PVHD1000

Has anyone had any luck at all using regular VHS tape such as SHG in the PVHD1000 for recording HDTV?

I have had excellent luck with SVHS tape but not with regular VHS tape with the hole punched to appear like an SVHS cassette.

The results I get is that it records blank or green pixelated screen just like we used to get when Showtime first went on the air.

That may not be a bad idea. I do have access to a number of tape distributors who deal in "evaluated tape" what you call one pass. BTW- there really is no such thing as a one pass tape you know. I just ordered some more new stock and thought that someone might have figured out how to use regular VHS grade tape for the digital decks.

For the PV-HD1000 there is a whole lot more difference between VHS and S-VHS than there is between SVHS and DVHS.

Roger:

I ditto your results.

I have just reviewed the 15th Fuji SVHS ST120 and it is flawless. I will be sticking with it for now as the most cost effective tape for the majoriety of recording of movies. I have some 160 minute stock coming in but will still keep some DFS420 and DFS 300 around for backup and for those really long movies.
