Drop out free recivers

Thread Starter
I have the TUDS/50 and VCR and Technics decoder. Im thinking about getting one of the new 7.1 recivers like the HK 8000 or the Dennon 3801. Since almost all of my movie watching uses the HDTV VCR, to take advantage of the surround back channels I will have to use the reciver as the 5.1 decoder. Does anyone know if Harman Kardan or Dennon recivers suffer from the drop out problem?

Joby, I have the DST-50 and HD1000; I tried my Denon 4800 as a sound
decoder, and got frequent and annoying dropouts, which went away when
I switched to a Technics 500 decoder. So I would say that Denon is not
a good bet.

Hi Joby. The high-end Denon receivers use the Analog Devices DSPs, which will very likely have audio dropout problems. Any receiver that uses Crystal/Cirrus DSPs will not have this problem because of the way these audio processors handle errors in AC-3 data (the Technics SH-AC500D uses a Crystal decoder).

As far as 7.1 receivers go, Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, and the latest Yamaha units (DSP-AXX) will be immune from the dropout problem. Personally I would go with the Onkyo TX-DS989 since it is software-upgradable via its RS-232 serial port. Hope this helps.

Some Marantz should be Ok, the SR-18 and simular models work fine with the TU-DST51.

I'm in the same situation as Joby. Does anyone know if the Lexicon pre/pros have the dropout problem with the Panasonic HD1000?

Thanks,
Mike
