I have had a RD-XS32SB for many years now , maybe 10 - I can’t remember, bought in the UK where I lived. It never gave me any trouble at all.
In 2006 we moved to the Philippines where I am now. The machine was set up here in July 2007 and everything worked. I made a couple of off-satellite recordings, the satellite box I had then had a PAL output, and also recorded from some VHS tapes onto the HD and then onto DVD. No problems.
Because the time it was showing was 6 minutes slow, 3 days ago I finally decided to amend the time. I went into Setup and found, nit very surprising it was set to get the time from BBC1, so it was out of luck here! I set the time manually and switched it off.
Next day I wanted to watch some DVDs on the machine as my regular DVD player was having problems. Two were DVDs I had burnt on my PC the third a commercial Region 2 disc. During the first DVD I heard a horrible clicking noise, I thought it was the DVD, so stopped it, took out the DVD, started again. No noise. A little later it began again. I ignored it, until I had finished watching and then realised that the noise was coming from where the HD was.
I looked at the content menu, it showed the titles but without the thumbnails. I tried to delete one title. It did delete but took much longer than normal. I powered down and then powered up again and got the dreaded 7061. Nothing I did worked after that.
After reading this forum I have tried all the suggestions, Zoom 701 Zoom, DVD-Top Menu-etc, pressing the eject button when the error message appears, nothing works.
I have opened the case, looked at the cables, nothing obvious.
So I am guessing it is the HD. Next trip to Manila I shall buy a new one but it is not easy to get IDE disks anymore, even here, least of all one with a specific Manufacturer code, so I shall do my best. I will update the forum if I get any results, positive or negative.
Meanwhile if anyone has any other good ideas, I should be pleased to read them!!
