Digital channel converter

I came across a black box on the net that takes an OTA signal, demodulates it, does base band processing, and then remodulates it into a 44.0 MHz I.F. (not R.F.) output. I wondered if this would have any applications in the HDTV Recording Forum. I know R.F. stands for radio frequency, but what does I.F. stand for?

Dave,
IF stands for Intermediate Frequency.

I cannot see how this would fit into the Dish5000-Panny combo scheme for HD recording.

If it's cheap and 8VSB it might be useful for experimenting. 44mhz isn't that far from chan 3. Where did you see it?

I am searching for the web site. It does have a BNC output before the signal is remodulated. Would this signal be recordable by the PV-HD1000?

No, the HD1000 only accepts firewire (2 twisted pairs).

That BNC might be SDI (serial digital interface).

This is similar to another post regarding ATSC and Echostar.

The signal off the satellite is not ATSC It is in a DVB packet and probably has all kinds of non-standard modifications by Echostar.

I think what you are thinking is hetrodyne the raw satallite signal to 44mhz. That won't work. All you will get is the DVB stream on a 44mhz carrier. Plus the modulation is most likely 64 QAM.

Thanks Dave,
Your fingers schmooshed it a little. It's http://www.ktechtelecom.com/remod.html. Broadcast stuff. Might be a little pricey.

Dave and I were working on a new comedy routine and thought we would polish it up here at the forum.

BTW, HiDefGuy, you misspelled shmoooshing.
