Its interesting to see that Gladiator (release date Nov 21) is already in the numero uno position as the best selling pre-order on most dvd sales sites.
I think its safe to say this great movie WILL overtake Matrix as the best selling dvd so far. Possibly closely followed by MI2?

Eric,

I agree with you that Gladiator does have a chance to go after The Matrix as a new record setting DVD sell. I do not believe that MI2 will even be close. Maybe a million but not three million plus. Two different movies. MI2 is nothing more than a John Woo action picture. Like Hard Target or Broken Arrow or FaceOff.

Gladiator is a story of one man's rise to power, being betrayed, his downfall and his rebirth and struggle to become a hero without wanting to be. This movie is filled with emotions. MI2 has almost none.

John Woo is a great Action Movie Director. Ridley Scott is a Master Storyteller.

Amazon has already had over 25,000 PREORDERS! Imagine the frenzy at stores! I cancelled my order of express.com because of rumors of the company going under and have ordered it from Amazon. This was a week ago and there were about 14000 preorders at the time.
BTW MI:2 has 16,000 preorders. If you go to Amazon.com in the DVD main page they have ticker with the preorder numbers.
Can't wait till November!!

If people are canceling orders because of rumors, then express.com will go under.

Lee,
Of course Gladiator is on a different planet compared to MI2. I was using box office figures as a yard stick to try and guestimate dvd sales. I believe they both took similar money in the movie theaters. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Seb,
Grab one anywhere you can. This is the mother of all movies!

Kurros,
Agreed. A bad rumor is like a bad tumor. They can kill companys.

Eric- I've got mine on pre-order from Amazon so I don't need to worry about that.

Gladiator made close to 185 million in the US, while MI:2 made almost 215 million, so both made a ton of money.

Lee- right on with the comments on Ridley Scott and John Woo.

Looking forward to Nov. 21...

How about Jurassic Park DVD which will probably out sell both.

This is a 2.35 anamorphic, DTS? Normal video bit rate or enhanced?

Pete,

Gladiator was shot in Panavision anomorphic (2:35:1AR)--Scott does know how to use this film lensing process, unlike others who "cheat" by shooting in Super35; the DVD should also be in this ratio. Coming from Dreamworks, it will have the DTS soundtrack option. As for the video portion, it should be an "enhanced for 16x9 TVs" (anomorphic), double layer disc affair. Hopefully authoring will contain a high bit rate to insure superb image quality.

I believe the preceeding to be correct, but could be wrong...
