Goldfinger...Hands down. Heh, maybe we should add this to the Ultimate Car Chase thread. That Aston Martin was one of THE coolest cars ever made. Everything worked as we saw it in the movie (except the ejection seat). I remember actually seeing this car at the 1964 Worlds Fair in Queens, NY.

"Do you expect me to talk Goldfinger?"

"No Mr. Bond...I expect you to die!"

Also had THE coolest name for any Bond chick; Pussy Galore.

The actor who played Goldfinger; Gerte Fromm died earlier this year. By the way his voice had to be dubbed into the movie because Gerte only spoke German.

Stop quoting from this movie, I'm drooling. Really great lines. Why cant they write like that anymore. Yep, trully up there with FRWL and Dr No.
Call me immature but I downloaded the 007 theme ringtone to my nokia yesterday. To embarresed to use it though. Mission Impossible tone sounds better. This computer will self destruct in 10 seconds Mr Phelps... What a sad case I am. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Diamonds Are Forever as well as all other 007s not on shelves right now will be relesed October 17th. Even the unofficial Never Say Never Again will be out that same day.

Wel'll be publishing a comprehesive review of the entire collection.

Uncle Eric, we have the same taste. I think you're the only person I've ever heard that likes From Russia With Love best. I love it! The fight on the train ("Old Man, is that what you chaps in Smersh are calling each other?--or something like that) is for me the best James Bond fight ever. Can't wait for it to be released.

As for the girls, I like the latest--give me Sophie Marceau and Denise Richards. Wow!

I saw this movie as a kid in our local fleapit. Even in Jaws I kept thinking of Robert Shaw as that enemy agent.
Also, I think the villans were very original in these early films. Like that scary little woman (I was 8 or 9 at the time) in those poison switchblade shoes. In later films nastys such as Oddjob. Where have all the great badies gone.

From Russia With Love and Dr No are both out in the UK, and have been for a month or two. For whatever reason MGM seem to be staggering the UK/US releases so that there are discs you can get in one region or the other, but not both (yet).

But lest not forget, the escapades of the kilt clad George Lasemby at Blofelds alpine retreat.

That movie is my contender for the best.

Thanks to this thread I was inspired to check eBay after my last post, and found Casino Royale only a few hours before auction end. It should get here before the LD player and will probably be the first movie I fire up the S9 with! (a score by Burt Bacharach to test its audio output)

Wow,
Casino royal did'ent even cross my mind! Great movie, enjoy the LD.
Now, heres something. This is absolutly true.

Around 20 or so years ago, I was in a CASINO in London, forget which one.
I enjoy blackjack every now and again. Anyway, I have met many famous people particularly in the top class places.
There I am playing a nice controled game (with my limited bankroll) when this guy sat next to me and started his box.
Our 50 pound notes were fairly recently introduced then, so this guy is changing 50 after 50 after 50. I did'ent take a good look at him as he sat down. So I turned and said something sarcastic as usual. Low and behold it was David Niven.
I nearly fell off my chair. He was a really nice guy. The expression he had on his face suggested that he was 2/3 grand up, when in fact he was losing a bundle.
We had a drink together, and that was the last I saw of him. He probably thought, better not go in there again, I might come accross that berk Eric...LOL

My country definately needs somebody. The secret agent boys cant even protect their own building (the MI6 Building by the thames, as seen in the latest James Bond movie).
Anyone can come along and put a big hole in it. (you must have seen in the news)

You'll note the chosen order in which I placed the cast of Casino Royal( and I happen to be a fan of Orson Wells and Woody Allen movies) which reflects my esteem of their talent and character. (However in the extra's list you must bounce Peter O'Toole up to the top).

007 Himself, and on the film set nonetheless. It must give you a different reading of Casino Royale than we mere mortals may aspire to. A true master of dash & dapper and a gentleman nonetheless - don't make them like that anymore (if they ever did).

Peter O'Toole, simply one of the greats, apart from his movie rolls, I've seen him in a few chat shows (Parkinson in particular), O'Toole is a real smoothie. Other people get nervous, and hot and bothered in Parkys show, but not this guy. Effortless ability in getting the point and the story accross. Fantasticly warm personality and charm. The guy just oozes class!

Brett: So you are the most articulate, devonaire member of the forum but casino royal? Is this Connery antagonism for outwit purposses, could remotely aspire to understand your radical Lyonaisse Avant Gardism or you are mocking the legions of young men that have used fleming's guidelines to a well rounded polish a la Terence-Youngesque Connery.

I love O'toole, Allen, Niven and most of the cast but zee film itself can be given the same treatment as triumph of the will, albeit for different reasons.

I am curious as to your views of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, where bond mascaraded? as sensitive (Got married), and portrayed an androgenous facade succesfully achieving the series promiscuosness record, thus maximising the 007 exploitation results.

A fascinating film from my limited new continent outlook which no one seems to acknowledge in here.

Has anybody in the forum given this film an even chance?

This is one of the worst IMO, The Spy Who Loved Me. It was on last night as part of TBS's 15 days of 007. I was reminded about how bad this one really was. Jaws ripping the van apart in different places instead of attacking Bond and the Russian? Come on, no one's that stupid.

On a high note, Goldfinger was on Sunday night. Great Bond flick.

I've had a second-hand zone 1 DVD of From Russia With Love for about a year now. It was an MGM release. Are you refering to a forthcoming release of a restored print with better transfer mastering than this DVD (which takes one hell of a setup to get a good picture out of)? TIA
