Help! Crouching Tiger locks up PowerDVD 2.55

Hi Gang

Just recieved my Crouching Tiger DVD from: http://www.getvcds.com/dvd/dvdhiddendragon.shtml

It plays well and looks good on my Toshiba player ( region 1), but locks up Power DVD 2.55 every time. As soon as I hit the play button on PowerDVD it locks up, I have never had this problem before. Has anyone had any luck playing this DVD in PowerDVD?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Glenn

Well the official Region 3 disc plays just fine in PowerDVD, maybe you should send back your Region 0 bootleg and buy the Region 3 instead.

Where can one purchase the region 3 disc? Is PowerDVD a region 'free' player?

Thank you, Glenn

Nope, it isn't, although you can download DVD Genie or some similar program to get around it.

None of it matters unless you have an older DVD-Rom "drive" that isn't region locked in the firmware (general rule of thumb is 4x dvd-roms and slower are not, although it really depends on when they were manufactured).

You can get a program to check whether your drive is region-locked, programs such as the aformentioned DVD Genie, test "patches" for firmware to potentially unlock your drive if it is region locked (which you use at your own risk, as it they can also simply hose your drive), and much more information here

Dude,

Mine "locked up" too on WinDVD2.6.4 when I hit play.

Then I realized all I had to do was hit >| to the next chapter (which was really the beginning) and all was well.

Slight pain to have to hit >| after hitting play (or starting with a chapter select), but small price to pay to have this movie NOW.

Thanks MMafia,

I'll give it a go, I think I get the hour glass as soon as I hit play and I am unable to do anything else after that.

Have you tried Power DVD 3.0? I just did this morning and it worked fine (R0 disk from getvcds.com)
