Orsen Wells and Natalie Woods (when she was about 6)in

"Tomorrow is Forever".

A couple madly in love, he must go to war.
She gets letter that he's dead.
He's not, but badly injured, takes years? to recuperate, but he's still crippled.

He decides not to contact his wife to spare her the pain of his plight.

He adopts a little orphan (from the old country, where her parents were a war casualty), and returns to the States, gets a job. He accepts a dinner invitation from his boss, and when he arrives at the home, he discovers that his bosses wife is his wife, and while he looks vaguely familiar to her, she doesn't recognize him.... He decides not to interrupt her new life and husband, who also have a grown son (turns out to be Orsen's son).

There is much more, but the love (and sacrifices) between all the characters, the bond between Orsen and his little orphan girl, the agony of will the wife ever know that Orsen really is her husband..., Orsen's love, so great, for her that he is willing to sacrifice his own feelings for her happiness.
What about the son (who wants to join the Army, and this is killing his Mother, since that's how she "lost" her Orsen), will he ever find out that Orsen is his real Father? All the emotions in this movie are tremendously moving, you will need a box of tissues.
The ending is the most emotional of any movie I have ever seen.
It's not easy to find, and not yet on DVD, but it's a pure diamond of it's
type (IMHO).

There is no question here. DVDuser8, your wife will cry at the end of these. No doubt. Done deal. Get the Kleenex.

"Without a Trace" (Honestly, not sure if it's out on DVD.)

"3 Wishes" (Is out)

Oh--and one for YOU to cry at the end....."Rudy".

Happy tears to you and yours!

WITHOUT A TRACE touches me too. Some very good performances in that nice little movie.

Then, there is that one about the writer C. S. Lewis, whose wife dies of cancer after a very short marriage--very touching. Can't think of the name of that movie. It starred Anthony Hopkins and...what's her name. Can't think of her name either. Oh, never mind.

Alan, thanks for the info. With so many suggestions from this thread, I think I'm going to burn a hold in my pocket renting all those movies and that is enough to make me cry ... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

I finally thought of it: SHADOWLANDS. It starred Debra Winger along with Anthony Hopkins. It's a pretty effective tearjerker...for others, I mean. Not for REAL MEN like me, you understand http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif.
