is Pocahontas open matte or pan-and-scan?

I'm on an animation kick and Pocahontas is the only major Disney animation that's out on dvd that I haven't seen. I've been holding off, hoping they would rerelease it with an anamorphic transfer. But, I don't think that will ever happen. Maybe when HD-DVD is introduced we'll see it.

Am I missing anything with the current version? Would I be wasting my money? Renting isn't an option for me so any advise/opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chad

It's letterboxed/non-enhanced. But that isn't the real issue. The real issue is that the transfer is much, much worse than the, generally gorgeous, transfers on other recent Disney films. It is so grainy that it looks bad even on small 4:3 sets. Oh, and there is a very long initial string of ads that you can't skip simply by pressing menu; the best you can do is step through them.

Pocahontas was only slightly widescreen... the AR was 1.66:1, which is how both the LD and DVD are presented. as for a future anamorphic release, there were rumors that a deluxe DVD, like the LD boxset, would be released... but i don't remember anything being mentioned about it being anamorphic. Disney just doesn't have the best track record with the animated releases...
