Okay I'm stuck in the same boat practically all of you guys are in too... but I'm mostly curious why everyone thinks it will be JUNE until it's on shelves.

Doesn't a STREET date actually mean that it will be on the street? I mean it's not when the manufacturing begins... what's the rationale for people choosing June anyway?

I wanted to buy it in Canada through Future Shop or Best Buy... is everyone under the opinion that it WON'T be March/April, but more June/July?

Cause tomorrow there's a great deal on the 1014, and if it's really going to be that unpredictable of a delay I dunno if I want to wait. Though I would definetely benefit from a 3rd component input.

Selling and upgrading later isn't really a pleasant option. I dont' really want to go through that unfortunately.

I also planned on buying either the Pioneer 578 or 588 DVD player... will I have to wait for June as well for the DVD player?

Oh and a couple other things... is this 5-band EQ really important? Is it just for better MCACC accuracy or does it make a difference in sound quality?

I'm also curious about how WMA 9 works...seems like we're all in the dark about that one though

I wish it had USB on the back though, like some of the Elites do.

Hmm, not sure if I'm wrong on this, but in the press release Pioneer put out in January of 2004, they stated this.

"The VSX-1014 will be available in August at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $700."

Wasn't it, in fact, available in August? I could've sworn that that was when I saw it at my local Best Buy here in Canada. I could be wrong, but the delay certainly wasn't months after August.

The 1014 was available in August. I believe there was limited stock at many retailers like j&r and onecall and they were backordered frequently then. 1014s didn't seem to really hit until October.

Well, I bought the 1014. Boy am I gklad I didn't wait for the 1015.
ealized now that I will never use THX, don't care much for WMA decoding. Only thing was the 3rd component input.
Well, this Friday night, my Samsung HDTV died and was not worth fixing (over $500 to fix). It only had 1 comp. in which is why I was wanting to wait for the 3rd on the 1015.
Bought a Sony KV32HS420 that has 2 comp ins and 1 HDMI. So now, I will have my cable DVR connected by HDMI, my DVD connected by Comp, my XBOX HD pack by Component and STILL have 1 component free :-)

Realy enjoying my 1014 for $400!

If you decide to wait for 1015, don't forget it will take another few months before 1015 drops to current price point of 1014 on sale. Like boxing day 2005.
By then, another new model is probably on the horizon .

Try THX mode on an older movie (e.g. pre-80's movie, not recently remastered). THX mode will smooth out the harsh dialog.

I too am waiting for the 1015. I was looking at the 1015 and cosmetically it looks exactly the same as the 1014. The face and even the remote are identical. Only thing that is different is where the the designation of the receiver model and THX designation are placed. Makes one wonder what internal changes have been made. Will it be worth the wait?

Does anyone know if this receiver will support Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD?

I am glad I stopped by and checked this forum. I was looking at the Denon HTiB with includes 3 component video in.

I believe this is a key feature for me between the 1015 and 1014.
Here would be my connections:
1) Directv HDTV receiver
2) DVD Player
3) Linksys WMLV54G

#3 Would allow me, for very little cost, stream video and audio from my PC in another room to the pioneer receiver.

earler reply stated compatability problems between Pioneer 1014 and Dish receiver- I can not find any other reference to this? Can anyone shed any light? I have Dish 921 HD receiver and was thinking about going with a 1014

i see they still haven't addressed the lack of optical inputs from the 1014tx

I don't believe any consumer receivers w/ DD-P and DTS-HD exist yet.

Anyone have any insight into when the VSX-815 will ship from J&R?

Mine is on pre-order and they can't give me any expected ship date. My speakers arrive on Wed and it will be painful to have new speakers and no receiver

I got the 1014 today and it smokes the Yamaha 1400 I sold off.I had enough of the audio drop-outs on the 1400.I was skeptical about all the rave about the 1014 until I plugged in.I thought the 1400 sounded good until I listened to the 1014.The only thing that sucks is I now have a new problem.I have a Dish Network 501 receiver and the optical doesn't work with the 1014.I knew about this problem but didn't care for the time being.To me Dolby Digital that dish produces doesn't sound all that great to me compared to DVD for what ever reason.Don't get me wrong its still alright.I'll probably move up to a 1015 ot higher end Pioneer later on.The 1014 is just a filler for now.

Is there any chance Pioneer will downgrade the amplifier quality of the 1015 so that it does not compete with their Elite line as strongly as the 1014?

As long as the connection from the computer digital the DACs on the receiver will convert to analog. DACs don't decode or process.
SPDIF is a standard for uncompressed digital audio transmission. If you connect by SPDIF, the computer will decode, and the receiver will convert to analog. If the receiver is connected by some other means (ethernet, usb, etc.) it may or may not process wmas.
You can get perfect wma decoding on PC by using foobar and a soundcard that supports asio or a sound card that natively bypasses the windows sound system.

CSMR just got Windows Media Center and found out it does not support asio. Do you know if my Nforce 3 250 MSI board can bypass the windows sound system? If not how do I find out? Thanks.

Another point after rereading this thread is THX select 2 is for small to medium sized rooms not necessarily dedicated to HT. I wish they would quantify small and medium sizes. It drives me bats when they do that. One mans medium is another mans large or small. Okay end of rant. My room is 15X20, do you guys think this is a medium room? I just wondering if it would do enough for me to be worth the premium over the 815. I just don't think the extra 20 watts per channel will be that noticeable. Let me know your thoughts please.

Its not just the watts per channel. The 1014 is based off the elite line, and we are assuming that the 1015 will be too. The elite has better innards and more features that can be well worth it over the 815.

looks like the 1014 is not available from best buy website anymore...

just wanted to give this a bump and say that the 1014 is 349 now and j&R. still has like 40 dollar shipping though. Still no sign of the 1015 and still only preorders of the 815/515

I sent an email to J&R inquiring about the availability of the 1015. They replied that they didn't have a firm date, but that it would be $429.99.

Wow, that's a fantastic price for the 1015, no? Only 30 dollars more than the current model, give or take. Hopefully they stick to that price, I didn't expect the price to drop from MSRP so dramatically before it even hits the shelves.

Also, the 915 was posted on J&R's website today for four Ben Franklins with the "call for better price" note on the site. Seems awfully close to the 1015 price, the "better price" discount must be large. They have listed the 915 as a 6.1 receiver though, they have to fix that.

The 1014tx does not have this feature. The 1014 and assummably the 1015tx use a mosfet amp section where as the 814 and 815(also assumably) use a hybrid amp technology. The difference is night and day at louder volumes. And the difference is probably more than 20 watts with all channels driven. I believe that the small or medium room is 3000 cubic feet. If you have a 20X15 room with 8' ceilings this translates to 2400 cubic feet and it would be great. I could be off on the 3000 number but i think it's right.
