Nice to see Bungie take action. But surfing their forums as well, I ran across this regarding dummying:

Apparantly this guy from Bungie is saying that the Bungie forum moderators are wrong and not a part of Bungie. I'm confused. I'm not sure what/who to beleive now in regards to dummying. But anyone glitching during matchmaking may have to think this over again.

Glad you pointed this thread out. I had read, like the people on that thread, that dummying was not bannable. I'm glad they're doing this. Especially since I could never get the dummying to work :)

No. It's a glitch that allows you to be invisible and have a visible dummy.

I for one am glad to see Bungie taking action. Now everyone needs to make sure and spread the news in the pregame lobby. From what I have seen, most cheaters dont care about the game enough to go to the website.

i would submit that *most* don't care about their actions because mommy and daddy are paying the bill, and/or they're naive about a moderated service. they'll find out. perhaps mommy and daddy will wonder exactly what little johnny is up to on the internet when he comes looking for a different credit card to setup a new xbox live account. in fact, i'd like to see the look on their faces if a nice official statement of cancellation comes in the mail (with details). break the terms of service, and bungie will break you.

Yeah when I first read about the dummying glitch/trick I had read that it was not a bannable offense. But I guess things have changed. :rolleyes:

I don't see how it is fun to cheat in these games. What's the point. I don't play online, but reading this stuff makes me wonder if I want to.

Don't let the cheaters discourage your from playing online. You'll run into cheats in just about everything and online gaming including Halo2 is not immuned to it. Just join up with team AVS and/or make friends who you know that don't cheat and play with them instead.

Some guys were doing this to us last night. I was the first time I had seen it. I guess the guy dummies himself...he somehow uses a glitch to make himself invisible. Invisible guy jumps into the Warthog while his visible body remains behind. He runs into the base undetected and grabs the flag which moves all the way to his visible body the flag is instantly back to their base and easily scored. Kinda sucked, hope we don't run into that again.

Is that glitch related to the modem standby one, or completely different? Because the modem standby one is the one I keep hearing about, and that one is able to be detected by Bungie.

i've been on a couple teams where the guys were trying to cheat. I told them lets just play the game. They tried to cheat anyway. So let's say i get on one of these guys teams again. Am I in jeapordy of being suspended? Although I'm not the culprit?

I also think they need to do something about player who quit 10 seconds into the game giving your team a disadvantage on team skirmish. Either A: the rest of that team shouldn't lose skill point or B: if you quit you automatically drop 2 skill points.

well, if you leave the game because you suspect people are cheating...then you can't report it. the flag object is easy to trace, and it's traceable to see who touched the flag during the exploit. purposeful modem suspends/resumes are easily detectable now. bungie looks closely at the instances in the game that show patterns for taking advantage of exploits, etc. chances are good you won't join many games where your team tries to cheat over and over. stay in the game, find out who is attempting the cheat, and report them at the end of the game. no one will receive a closer look unless people report them.

the other team may report your entire team for cheating, but something sparks interest when a user reports a fellow team member for cheating. hint. ;)

cheating is taken seriously because the integrity of the halo 2 xblive experience needs to remain alive and well for maturation of the game.

The best I've seen are people who can take 3 shotgun blasts to the head at close range and survive (yet kill me with 3 blasts from a submachine gun). :confused:

I played again last night, and noticed the same thing with some games. People would not die when you hit them with the sword or shotgun at close range, but they hit you with a few blasts of the SMG and you're toast.

I don't think it was any skill differential b/c playing other games, everything seemed fine.

The one thing that's really starting to irk me is people who kill you and decide to throw a bunch of profanities in for good measure. I don't mind some trash talking, and am generally not overly sensitive to cursing, but it gets annoying when you die and you hear a string of expletives. We ended up reporting a couple of those guys last night.

I guess it just makes sense to find a good group of guys to play with and have your own games. Playing with random guys who cheat or are incredibly foul really spoils the mood for playing this great game online.

I get in a group with people who's playing tendencies (i.e. maturity level) I know, that I know work well with me, and I play there. I thorougly enjoy bungie's feature of allowing you to take your own party into a matchmade game, so that at least you have reliable members on your team.

Dasro - well if you're interested, my alias on Halo 2 is: CrazyCooterEsq - I play with 3 other guys who are pretty cool, and we'd be open to meeting others.

Wow, am I glad I stumbled on this thread. I thought I was going crazy. Just signed onto live a few days ago so I expected a skill differential, but still, I'm no rookie. Unloading clip after clip into someone (including headshots) with no satisfaction, then getting axed by a couple shots from their smg.....what the hell? :rolleyes: This really detracts from the whole experience if you can't get someone's fair game.

you have to be an 'elite' to do the dummy cheat. essentially, without teaching everyone how to do it via this post, you can create a dummy image of yourself back at your base.

this dummy will stand and, even shoot and throw grenades (but, not looking directly at you) you sit, while invisible, in the warthog. you can then be transported anywhere on the map.

It may not be just an SMG they're using on you guys. A Magnum/SMG combo can be very deadly, especially with headshots. I can take someone down pretty fast with that. Next time it happens, see if you hear that "pop, pop, pop" of the magnum mixed in with the rattle of the SMG. It's easy to miss.

Am I the only one that would prefer Bungie to just fix the glitches rather than attempt to catch the individuals who exploit them?

In my opinion, the modem standby stuff is in a different league than the various glitches. The dummying trick is fairly easy to defend against once you know about it.
