OH, so you are looking at that forum too?

mpsan,

If you can't get the Playback review of the BD30 without subscribing, I'll get it to you somehow, even if I have to resort to MAIL. 4000 watts?! What be the power?
Have you heard of anyone having trouble with the volume control? My Qualia 006 shoots up to "19" - you then manually have to turn it back down - audio board was replaced once - same problem again happening.

thanks,
Cathy

Was this for the Qualia006 ?
Are you able to get an extended warranty on the Qualia006 - I was told they would not give one ???

Read back over the last few pages. There is a lot of information, including telephone numbers and prices.

Well, I will look at the review again to see if they will let me get it. Do you have a URL?

The power is a Sub and a 5ch Amp at 250 Watts each. I run B&W Nautilus all around...except for sub.

I've been checking it out, since I am interested in the BD50 that will be coming out. I couldn't resist

So, has your Netflix come in yet?
i should have 3:10 to Yuma AND Shoot'em Up (they must have shipped me an extra b/c of my complaint as i am now downgraded from 4 to 1 at a time )

why not the bd65 dd?

the bd50 will have internal decoding but not bitstream? i remember there was some limitation that i thought was disappointing...

BD,

Are we talking about the Panny? I haven't heard about a BD65. I thought the 50 was the new one coming out with all the bells and whistles, that is if it has 7.1 analogs.

No, I did see that they shipped it and I will get it tomorrow. It is Good Luck Chuck.

You know, I think I need a break

Either the bd30 or 5k needs to go back...tracking so many threads is obviously wearing on me. Newtoyitis.

mpsan and others, try this for the review: http://magazine.playbackmag.net/playback/200801web/.

You have B&W Nautilus in 5.1? With the Q? How do you have your center placed? I won't clutter this thread with high-end audio chatter, but you have just exposed to a gearhead like me about the equivalent of parking five Ferraris in the garage.

Hello Cathy, and welcome! As the official thread Historian, I can tell you with some authority that you are (unfortunately) the first one to post here with a any kind of problem with the volume controls.

But as I mentioned in my reply to your PM, you set should still be under its original Sony warranty, so keep on them until they fix it.

Here are a couple of useful links for where to start:
DiveDude seems to be the first one to mention extended warranties recently
Penton-Man makes a now-infrequent appearance with information on how to get a cheaper EW from Sony

OK, I can get to the Playback web site but do not see where to click for the review. I only see music reviews.

OH, my shelf is above the Q...I have a picture here! And, NO, the sub is not there any more...it is away from the corner and the wall!

When you get to the Playback page, do you see a toolbar? If so, click on pages, the review is on page 152. If this isn't happening, let me know with a PM and I'll send you a copy of the review.

I thought your five Nautilus speakers may have been the $50K/pair Nautilus shell speaker. Still, the set you have are very nice. Ironically, today I got my Home Theater magazine delivered which has a featured article on, drum roll, the B&W speaker company, including pix of the aforementioned Nautilus speaker.

Yes, now I can see the review. He liked it!

Yes, I read the B&W story as well. Actually we dropped down a bit on our speakers so that we could place the sub where we wanted it. Those big ones sure have a bad WAF!

Did you see the $6 million dollar setup? I used to live near there and had the same NovaBeam he mentioned!

The whole gang is anxiously waiting

Thanks DD. I noticed an Elton John 60th Birthday BR. So I added it to Netflix and it says short wait! I sure hope Netflix adds more BR. I was getting used to little or no wait on SD titles!

I see that DTS is still not very popular even on BR!

OK...got it. I like the pic and sound. A little bit of a learning curve, however. I get status screens on the BD30 that I had to get off. Found that toggle. Wanted to see if it showed dts 5.1, but could not find it.

I had to do a skip to get by all of the previews instead of hitting top menu. SD DVD's do that as well sometimes.

The picture was great...if not a little too bright, but we plan on watching the whole thing tonight. I am using the BD30 remote as I want to see what I need before programming my Harmony!

Now we just need Netflix to get their act together!

Glad you like it So when you get everything all setup, pop in Ratatouilla, Cars or anything in Tier 0 to really blow your mind.

I was looking at that thread for great audio...I want that Queen disk. I wonder if BB has it and I can trade one of my unopened ones I got with the BD30?

OK DiveDude and BD...we watched Good Luck Chuck. Looked very good, except for two things. During bright outdoor scenes it was a little washed out. I expected this as it was noted in the review.

However, several times during the movie, I saw flashing! It happened during some darker scenes...like there is an elevator that had dark blue doors. Whenever they were there, the doors were flashing! I think once in a restaurant as well.

Is this my setup? Of course I have the BD30 connected to the Q via HDMI. The BD30 is set to HDMI Video and I have the BD30 to not output audio via HDMI. I also have the BD30 set to 1080i (not auto) and 16:9 (not 16:9 full).

So, any idea what the flashing is? Can it be that DVD? Also I am still at 1.2 firmware.

TIA

mpsan,

I have never seen flashing from my BD10 on any movies. But I have not watched Good Luck Chuck. Does it do it everytime you play the same scene? On my player, I have the video setting at default and I am using the Pro setting on the 006. I don't know if this would affect video, but do you have the HDMI Audio Output set to Off?

First...yes, it will do it every time when looking at someone getting out of the elevator. The walls are deep blue and there is a small amount of flashing.

However, I CAN stop it! IF I force the BD30 to 720P, instead of the 1080i I selected, it will stop. I do not want to do that. Also...I have had the Q in VIVID. If I select Pro it seems to go away...at least to the point where you would need to look hard to see it. I wonder if BenDover has his Q set at Pro.

DD, I suppose that almost everyone uses Pro and not Vivid...huh!

I am posting this on the Q forum as several people here have the BD30 and most other forums do not even know what the Q006 is!
