QUALIA 006 Owner's Thread - Page 563

I have heard mixed results dave - it sounded like they have been trying to offer a lesser tv and have the Q back for some. Not sure whether that had to do with inventory or not...
They wanted pictures of my current Blob in order to go forward with mine and I have had 2 OBs replaced already.
The feedback is very much appreciated. I will see what I can do.
Thanks again for a great forum.

I had to send pictures too. I hope they were clear enough...

Only to show we are not just A/V geeks:

810.02 Burglary.--

(1)(a) For offenses committed on or before July 1, 2001, "burglary" means entering or remaining in a dwelling, a structure, or a conveyance with the intent to commit an offense therein, unless the premises are at the time open to the public or the defendant is licensed or invited to enter or remain.

(b) For offenses committed after July 1, 2001, "burglary" means:

1. Entering a dwelling, a structure, or a conveyance with the intent to commit an offense therein, unless the premises are at the time open to the public or the defendant is licensed or invited to enter; or

2. Notwithstanding a licensed or invited entry, remaining in a dwelling, structure, or conveyance:

a. Surreptitiously, with the intent to commit an offense therein;

b. After permission to remain therein has been withdrawn, with the intent to commit an offense therein; or

c. To commit or attempt to commit a forcible felony, as defined in s. 776.08.

Florida statute 812.13 defines robbery as: "[T]he taking of money or other property which may be the subject of larceny from the person or custody of another, with intent to either permanently or temporarily deprive the person or the owner of the money or other property, when in the course of the taking there is the use of force, violence, assault, or putting in fear." There are different types of robberies and they carry different penalties. Under Florida law, there are five different types of robbery crimes:

1.Robbery by Sudden Snatching
2.Strong Arm Robbery
3.Armed Robbery
4.Carjacking
5.Home-Invasion Robbery

Sorry to read about your streak of bad luck. Glad everyone is OK. Things have got to better. Hopefully you'll soon be enjoying a new 65" 929. Chin up ole boy!

Yup--different states, different laws (lol-just getting my post count up).

Living in Minnesota, today was the first real snowfall. There is nothing like having a nice all wheel drive car, unless its in the shop with at least a 3 week delay until it is done! So for now I am driving a cruddy huge rental car and not getting to enjoy awd, such is life, but definitely not ideal. I am hoping the TV thing gets resolved soon, it is costing me a bit but given my alternative to keep on looking at the blob, I had no real choice.

Sent my paper work in yesterday for the 65HX929. They do not want the set back.
Please keep the snow in Minn.

Tech is supposed to come by tomorrow to diagnose the set (which he will as a failed OB). Was just wondering what any of you guys said to Sarah/Sony Listens Team to get the 65" 929. What was the counter offer to their discount? I haven't reached out to them because I thought Service Net might do it for me but does anyone have any good advice on how to proceed now?

Hey everyone,

Well I think I've gone full circle as I received a 65" HX929 today through the graciousness of Sony replacing my Qualia 006. Kudos to Sony for that!

It was kind of sad to take the Q off her stand, replacing with a sleeker, although bit smaller screen size, HX929. I fondly remember a rumored new uber TV coming from Sony over 7 years ago. I searched high and low for almost a year and half looking for any information I could find before the Qualia 006 was released. At first information was hard to come by but eventually I came across AVSForum, for the first time, that had this thread. It was a really exciting time with boutique shops having red carpet receptions for this TV. And all the energy from other Q owners who were more prolific in posting that made for great reading as people started receiving and enjoying their sets. I don't think I'll ever be as excited for a TV as I was for the Q as times were quite different then. But then the OB problems appeared and mine was replaced around 2007. Now this ride has come to an end and glad that Sony has done the right thing all along for me which now includes complete replacement for a TV as old as the Q is.

Anyhow feeling nostalgic and quite happy with the HX929.

Cheers,

Xrispy - I know I was on that wild ride too and boy did it hurt when I realized that I wouldn't be going happily into the sunset, but instead it was turning into "The Blob".

I too am going to be receiving the HX929 - I just got shipping notification and no clue how long it will take to actually arrive (anyone care to chime in with their experience?). I hope it will be a nice delivery, my "white glove" was a bad joke on the original Q as I had to bribe them to get it even into the house. My Q will still get some use as the kids are not noticing the coloration enough yet to complain (and considering how much I spent on bulbs I might as well use them).

On another happy note I finally got my car back after 3 weeks in the shop. Having 5k of damage done to a 2011 is not much fun, but at least I won't be dealing with a crappy rental car any longer.

My 65HX929 should be here next week, ah the shopping list... With so many recent HX929 types here I figured would post a ? for you (man it just hurts to think of us being forced to move on...).

Can you just run your hdmi cable into the HX929 and then run the audio via hdmi back out of the tv?

Should I be worried about 3D HDMI issues is my receiver likely to balk at being asked to pass 3d?.

My 929 should arrive today or Monday. I was surprised by Sony Listens as they were reportedly out of stock on the 929 I received shipping information this morning and Sony shipped by air and it is already at the airport.

Sirjay

I gather you are talking about how to connect a 3D signal source. If your receiver is not 3D ready you cannot do what you suggest and you have to bypass the video around the receiver. The 929 has no HDMI out.
You can run the 3D signal direct to the HDMI input on the tv frrom your source and a digital audio cable from the 3D source to your receiver. If your 3D source probably blu-ray, has 2 HDMI outs you could run the second HDMI to your receiver for the audio.
Or you could run the digital audio out of the 929 to your receiver. I think the first way would be preferred as there may be less processing of the audio signal.

Thanks for your information, after doing hours of research I found out that my problem is actually a bit worse. I am using the PS3 for blu-rays and it won't output 3d and the better audio at the same time over hdmi so I am stuck going with optical anyway when I want to watch 3d. So to enjoy say Avatar with all the bells and whistles will cost me at least a dual hdmi out blu-ray player (a nice option for those of use with 1.3hdmi receivers that do everything that needs to be done but simply don't like 3d). The digital out on the tv may actually be a bit preferable as I need to run that anyway to try out the tv's netflix and that way I don't have to swap hdmi cords and settings on my ps3 to watch 3d.

It appears you got a bit lucky on the direct ship. I got the same may not be available for months story but they said they were trying to free some up. Mine shipped on Wednesday and is going from California to Chicago via land then will apparently fly over to MN, a shame they didn't have mine go with yours .

And I have a solution! Denon AVR-2112CI 7.1-Channel Integrated Network A/V Surround Receiver - very good deal and now I have a simplified life. Who knows maybe the 929 has audio return which will simplify things even more.

The 929 does have audio return but you might not need it. Audio return Cable (ARC) is used when your tv tuner is being used to receive OTA tv signals and you want to have the multi channel tv signal then sent to the receiver for play back
The Denon AVR-2112CI has HDMI 1.4 and can decode the HD audio for Dolby or DTS if your Blu-Ray cannot decode the signals.
The HDMI cable from your Blu-Ray player will have the audio signal and you will have your speakers connected to the Denon.
By the way another plus. The Denon AVR-2112CI has Audyssey MultEQ® XT. You will not believe the difference you will hear after you run it.

Yes the Audyssey was the big selling point for me (that and the claims of real time modulation). My big simplification is simply things like netflix or amazon instant which I intend to try via the tv directly - this will save me having to worry about how to get the audio out of the tv.

My Qualia 006 is out the door and replaced by a new 65HX929. It was bittersweet, but the new TV is looking great. I hate to say it, but the black levels are much better...

Bye Bye!

I too am feeling the pain - getting my 2010 Audi A8L back in 4 weeks (T-boned by an 18wheeler on the GW bridge coming home from the Giants/Packers game). Pushed me over 100 yards.
21k damage but no injuries.

Might be time to trade the Audi for a new one. I would watch the tire wear for any indication that they did not get the body and front suspension perfectly lined up and it is not tracking correctly. You would be surprised how sloppily some places do the chassis alignment and then try to correct it by changing the front suspension alignment to accommodate the difference.

Hi Stew. I already spoke to my dealer and he has a bunch of 2012's available. I was told I would only lose $1500-2500 on the trade-in. It will have a "car fax" accident report. I don't want to drive it after it is repaired. IMO it will never be exctly the same. I was going to trade it in in 1 year. Will just do it now instead.
Still miss my Q. Wouldn't mind an 80" 929 or one of those Sharp Elites or whatever they're called.

Must be something about Audi owners liking really nice TV's. Sorry to hear about the fender bender on the A8L, that's a crying shame. I'm on my 4th Audi now (a 2010 Q5 S-line), and just got the Elite 70inch. I recently sold the replacement 65HX929 that Sony sent me to replace the beloved Qualia. All is now peaceful and well in TV and car land over here. Couldn't be happier. As a born and raised and transplanted Cheesehead, I'm enjoying the Packer game on the Elite in fact as I type. It should go without saying, I feel very fortunate and consider the entire calendar between Thanksgiving and New Year's as the time to give special thanks for all these gifts we have. Thank God you weren't hurt by that truck, and thank God the Germans make safe cars! Enjoy the holidays all.

How did you sell your 929 ? I have mine on EBay and haven't had much luck yet.
I like the Elite over all the others but I really want a bigger screen.
80"+ would be in line with my thinking.

Had a nice Audi S-Line taken out by a motorcycle, managed to nail the rear corner and spin the car around - bent the frame and totaled it. Guy was lucky to be alive - my wife still shudders thinking about it as she was driving the car and he was doing the fun crotch rocket thing at probably well over 100 when he decided to slow down and crashed into her.

Wow - that must have been an insane experience. Yes, those Audis can definitely keep you safe, one reason I have purchased quite a few of them. Their recent trend towards getting absolutely huge has put me off though, I saw the S5 4-door in Europe and fell in love with it, I hope it comes to the states.

Actually sold it here in the AVS Classified section. Took me almost a month, but got rid of it, said goodbye to Sony, and moved on.

Stew,

Ditto what Brian/ManWithAPlan said.

I also sold my 929 via the AVS Classified a couple weeks ago (you can view my closed ad in the closed ads section). My listing was active less than 2 weeks. I had 6 offers, 2 were low-balls, 4 were real. The successful buyer drove down from Chicago 486 miles each way and paid my asking price in cash. Since we're not supposed to talk dollars on AVS, PM me if you're curious what my asking price was.

Because I had an extended direct-from-Sony extended warranty expiring Jan 2012, I managed to secure a new, sealed box optical block for my Qualia last summer, which I chose not to install until this coming Thursday (my screen has finally just become too green for me to take it any longer). I'm hoping this new optical block gets me down the road another year with my 006 and that maybe by then there will be an 80" Elite or some other set with commensurate quality in an over 70" size. Worst case the 70" Elite is already available, which Brian has already reviewed for us on this thread.

By all reports, the Sony 929 has a wonderful picture, but I would not have liked shrinking my panel size down to 65".

Stew, ironically I will end up with a used Qualia optical block in my possession, which you and I were seeking a few months ago when we were on our mission to see if it could be successfully re-built by an after-market tech. Too bad that trail ran cold.

Good luck.

Chris
