QUALIA 006 Owner's Thread - Page 569

Just did that, thanks. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
Bullcrap.

I ordered one and it is about as far from new as I've seen in a long time. I have two used ones that look better than the crap I just got. Requesting a return and filing a complaint if there is even a hint of resistance.

Box was old as the hills, opened more than a few times, the packaging inside was all opened AND missing cardboard, the bag was well used and missing the yellow tape, the wrench is not in there...

Good luck!

My Q gave up the ghost a while ago. Just been sitting on the lamp. I have one new Sony XL-5000 which I would be happy to sell for $75, shipped, before I put it on e-bay for a higher price. I tested it within the 90 day warranty period when it came and it's working. I'll mark it and the lamp to ensure that I don't get someone's worn out lamp back with a "worn out" claim. I know a lot of you guys, but I got burnt once with an e-bay sale and I don't leave anything to chance, anymore. PM me.
Shot you a PM - luckily the Q is mostly a kids tv and while the green is growing bright kids cartoons still look pretty good.

I called the Sony exchange folks and they told me that they'd exchange it for a KDL60EX720, but I told them that I want a TV that at least closely approximates the 70" that they are replacing. Of course I don't expect them to replace my $14,000 7-yr-old tv with a $20,000 70" XBR, but I would at least like the most current model of 65" TV sold. So they told me that they'd send me an KDL65HX729. OK, that's a step, but many of the folks I've been reading about here on the Sony AVS forum have been getting 929's by paying a $375 upcharge. But they keep telling me that the 929's are not available. Wazzup? Should I take the deal for the 729 or keep pushing for the 929?
Argh... I loved my old Qualia and don't expect the picture of either of the replacement offerings to have that smooth natural/filmic quality it had. The whole thing stinks!
But hey... does anyone have any suggestions for me?
(thanks)

Insist and don't accept anything less than the 65hx929, and only a nominal cost for shipping (which can be around $100-$300). They will tell you it's not in stock, won't be available for maybe an unspecified long period of time. Your answer should be "I'll wait." Once they put you on the list the experience has been you will get one within a week. But they will try hard to make you accept something less. Don't. We are talking about a Qualia here so you should get the top of the line.
Ah, they should ship it for free. You should have NO out of pocket on this. I know most of us that accepted the offer from Sony paid zip for it, including no freight. Tell them you'll wait and want it shipped for free. Its the least they can do considering what we all paid for this now 300 lbs paper weight.
I had to pay their shipping/delivery charge, it wasn't fun but under 400 wasn't worth risking blowing having a working tv for me. I really didn't think I had too much leverage given that I was one of the original buyers so my set was quite old (and previously Sony had been lowballing me badly with "special pricing" that even after taking away the Q's "residual value" was worse than what I could buy it for new on ebay). I couldn't risk having nothing to show for such a huge investment (the wife would never have let me forget it) so I accepted their charges (with appropriate attempts to try to get them waived since I knew it was "possible" especially when they kept delaying my delivery date).

Just my 2 cents if you can get a tv ask yourself how far you want to go in terms of brinksmanship - I know I was just plain worn out from fighting for anything after years of dealing with this stuff so I caved.

They refuse to cover the shipping. I paid the freight so I could get the 929. But, I sold it on Ebay immediately as I am done with Sony.
They have a new Sony 4K projector that I am longing for.
I don't trust them. The AVS projector user forum has a fairly large number of the Sony 4k owners getting second and third units because of defects. If they pull the same customer service shut down like they did with the Qualia there will be many $25,000 Sony 4k projectors with no recourse.

I just checked his feedback and I see 5 positive reviews for that lamp since I did that post.

I appreciated the ebay link (and it appears that their quality control isn't spotless but odds aren't horrible of getting the advertised item). Ebay is ebay and I can only wonder how they managed to get their hands on large quantities of these bulbs cheaply. Hopefully pawrampe gets his refund I am sure if any other of the Qualian group get bad bulbs we will hear about it. Small world doesn't begin to cover the Q006 crowd smile.gif.

I just finally retired my qualia 006 about a month ago and just happened onto this thread for the first time in a while. I too had the deteriorating green blob of death and now read that Sony is doing something to make up for it. What is the process by which I should contact them? Do I contact via the qualia service number? What information do I need to provide? Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help. Shouldn't be a problem to get that picture.

I have to admit given the amount of upheaval at Sony it is quite the relief to hear they are still trying to get things resolved with us Q owners. We were unfortunate guinea pigs but given all their other issues (and the way they managed to sneak us into that class action) I feared the door might shut at any moment and therefore breathed a huge sigh of relief when I had a delivery (even if it does have one pixel that won't light up red sigh). The fact that Sarah still has a job (and is so helpful) gives me some real hope for them as a company. Yes I know they make mistakes but lets face it the only way we are going to get the technology we all crave is if the big boys keep on playing against each other. Apple is still my real hope to shame them into putting real money into research and development, but they have to remain in business in order to feel the pressure. The hobbit with its 5120-by-2700-pixel filming resolution sounds hopeful but of course there will need to be the right kind of players (ps4 perhaps...) and the right type of tvs to really push things forward.

You know something about this that you want to share or were you just making this up ?
I have absolutely no inside knowledge - just going by this article http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2403746,00.asp which said they were capturing the footage at that resolution (they may simply plan on part of that being garbage but it at least opens the possibility they could come out with something at up to that resolution - capturing it in the first place seems hopeful).

i just received the two that i ordered and opened the boxes very anxiously after reading the negative post here...whew, was i relieved when it appears i got what was advertised, new original sony replacement lamps.

hopefully in a year from now when i have to use one, it works smile.gif and then about a year after that the other works biggrin.gif if the Q manages to stay around that long with its PQ issues.

So, the folks at Sony Listens really came through for me. Sarah Kepler and her team sent me a 65HX929 within a week of receiving the serial # sticker and screen image of the green blob. And although the 65" 929 isn't as big as the Q006, the image quality is tremendous and the contrast ratio is absolutely crazy. Black levels are... BLACK. White levels, even in 3D mode with high ambient light are really bright. I'm a happy camper.

Glad I could help and the information is still valid.
Good to hear that Sony is continuing to help owners of defective Qualia 006s.
I urge every owner not to wait and to submit their requests before the program disappears

The eBay seller did return my money without any issue and quickly, so thanks!

I went and bought just a replacement Phillips bulb without the cage, as I have 3 cages with bulbs that were on the way out. It's a very easy replacement process.

You want rubber gloves, medium size phillips head, a small flat head and that's it. Note, the stock bulb has metal pieces that go into holes to block the air, forcing it to come in from the vent. I took those off a stock bulb and put them on the top and bottom of the new Phillips. The power cables are held to the bulb via screws.

Let's see how long the bulb lasts. Looks good so far!

Discount TV Lamps is where I got it from. $100 delivered.

Well, I suppose the offer is no longer available. They refused to allow the 65hx929 as a replacement for my green qualia. Talked to everyone on the phone that would listen. I stated I would wait for more stock but was told that I would not be allowed to receive one as a replacement and was only offered the 60" KDL model which was laughable. Needless to say I will never purchase from Sony again. And this will likely be my last post on this thread. I am pretty furious

Very sorry to hear and can't say I blame you. Have you tried the Sara Face Book page?

There were a lot of postings when Sony was making the exchange and we all felt it would be a "limited time" opportunity. It now appears the time has passed. The Q006 line is 7.5 years old and there are fewer and fewer of us around.

I truly hope something works out for you.

Do not accept a KDL and keep trying. Post on the facebook page, etc. I believe one of the potential problems is that apparently the 929 might no longer be produced and they might not have any available since they are trying to get rid of the remaining stock at the retailers to make room for new models. There are rumors that a 950 is in the works, perhaps you can ask for that when it comes out (nothing has been officially announced by Sony regarding new models).
The person on the phone said they weren't allowed to discuss potential future models coming out or what previous customers were provided as a replacement. She said there were plenty of 929s available just not for the exchange program on the qualia. I tried Sara initially a couple of weeks ago. I'll send her another message to see if it will help. I don't understand their reasoning for which model they use for replacement. If it was consistent I would be a little more accepting I guess, but to treat each customer differently is kinda bogus.

I would suggest posting here:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Have-a-Defective-Sony-TV/182875766612

This is monitored by Sara and the Sony Listens team. That's how I got my replacement
post #17067 of 17304
I was just contacted by someone from Sarah's team. There has been progress. I have been bumped up to the 65hx729 but am still asking for the 929. The Sony Listens team is definitely friendlier and more understanding than the people I spoke with yesterday. I'll continue to update as I get more information.

I have had time to calm down in the last 20 hours. Patience is not something I'm good at.

i would suggest indicating that you know someone that has received the 929 for their Q, not that you've read about it on the internet. i also suggest indicating that the person you know had to pay some nominal amount, e.g., perhaps to cover shipping/delivery, and that while you would rather not, you would be willing to pay that nominal amount.
