1080P will be history once HD-DVD or maybe even HD-DVD is out. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

As far as dvd catalogs being re-released in HD, you act as if this will be a quick process. It will take many many years for any HD DVD format to replace current DVDs. That's so obvious that I again miss your point.

Not only that, I'm pretty darn sure that the HD-DVD and BluRay Disc formats are 1080i, so a handy-dandy deinterlacer/scaler connected to a display that can accept a 1080p or 1080/24PsF would be nice..

Wouldn't that depend on the quality of the deinterlacer/scaler that's built into the display?? It seems that at CEDIA last year, it was reported that the Qualia had an external deinterlacer/scaler. Then when its released, the price is higher and no external processor. Others have reported that the set performs better with a 480i signal than a scaled and/or deinterlaced signal. Sounds like the external scaler/deinterlacer seen at CEDIA is now internal to the TV and that it works pretty good.

GREAT HD TRANSFER MOVIE ALERT:

Watched "MAN ON FIRE" last night on HBOHD, with our frat brother Denzel in the leading role with the fabulous 8 or 9-year old (??) going on 20 years old Dakota Fanning. TREMENDOUS PICTURE QUALITY!!!!!!!!!! This is without question a great "show off the Qualia" flick. Incredibly detailed close-ups of faces.... VERY sharp, beautifully shot, great color palette, etc. The movie is a little long (2.5 hours) but very entertaining. I checked for upcoming show times - looked like the HD presentations are all in the early a.m. hours - definitely worth searching for and taping.

Denzel - what an actor!!!! and Dakota are GREAT in this flick.

Found this about Dakota and this film:

Dakota Fanning is nominated in the "Best Young Actress" category for her amazing performance in "Man on Fire". The Critics' Choice Awards are awarded by the Broadcast Film Critics Association to honor the finest in cinematic achievement.

I just received a Tweeter/Hillcrest/Hi Fi Buys/Showcase "Spring" magazine (catalog) in the mail. On page 14, it shows the KDS70Q006 at the MSRP of $12,999.99 and available in "select stores". It also has the Q004, so Tweeter seems to be going upmarket in some locations.

Well,
With 450 units coming in by the end of March, I suspect they will be getting some.

B.T.W. - When Sony decides (they are currently evaluating when) to switch from da plane to da boat.....I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lag period (read....delay) in the availability of the 006 - so any fence hangers may want to consider pouncing soon.

Also, something for people to consider with a difficult delivery planning to purchase this display directly from Sony and thus using their delivery services..

As you know it is the official policy of Sony that this display requires 4 people for delivery to the destination point. Well, the delivery people have asked Sony to reconsider and change it to 3 people.

Why you ask?
Well, you can fit 3 guys in the delivery trucks.but to get a crew of 4 to somebody's homeit takes 2 trucks. I have no idea what the outcome will be as this change would have to go through a couple levels of bureaucracy ..so I doubt if the *possible* change in policy is imminent.

Yes, if the scaler in the display can do that sort of deinterlacing/scaling...is the 006 capable of displaying a 1080p or 1080p/24PsF image? The 004 is capable of doing this, eventually it appears, but I think the 006 tops out at 1080i...

It probably does well with a 480i signal which is good for DVD and NTSC TV feeds, but in the near future it's higher resolution formats that I think one should be concerned about..like 1080i..
The 006 accepts 1080i but does not accept any flavor of 1080p. But it will accept 1080i, which is what the HD DVD and Blu-Ray outputs will be, and it does an excellent job deinterlacing 1080i to 1080p. It's not clear that an outboard scaler would do a significantly better job. Possible, but unclear at this point.

Cheers

I think that I red (I like my reds on the Qualia 006!) carefully what the posters with knowledge on this subject had to say rather than those that were concerned about the cost of the upgrade.

To me (granted my knowledge on this stuff is elementary), it is a moot (or as spidy claims.cows say mooo) point whether the cost of this upgrade including labor is 3K, 5K, or $300. or $500. I just still see no advantage to having a 1080P/60 Input unless you are a gamer.

I think that this is evident from the well informed posters on the thread that I referenced as well as other threads on this forummost notably this one -
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/show...427#post4964427
pay particular attention to the statement that Owen makes
There is no chance of any 60fps video source in the foreseeable future.

I think that the KEY point here is what does the deinterlacer in the 006 do with a 1080i 60 fields input?
Does it WEAVE the fields back together to provide the 1080p 30 frames per second image that we are seeing on our 006's (which is extremely easy for the Sony engineers to do) or does it use bob deinterlacing or some other simple proprietary method to achieve this?

P.S.- If the above link doesn't work then try about the 3rd post down on Page 91 of the "Sony jumps" thread -
of which I think this was the last page...

Any of the other "on order" people endlessly rearranging their homes and evaluating different theatre room choices? I think my wife is getting a tad perturbed as I go hmm maybe we should do it in this room.... or you know if we moved our bedroom... so far I have placed tried to place it everywhere but the kitchen and the bathroom.... hmm the bathroom that way I would never have to move... just add a minifridge and a microwave...

I think this is the post Penton-Man was referencing:

There is a wide spread and continuing misunderstanding of how the 1080i system works

There is still a question as to whether the 006 ever bobs

I did the same (except with Painter's tape -blue from Home Depot.....as it is doesn't do as much damage when you pull it off)......just wondering how many other Qualia owners had their rooms taped ?????
