Does anyone have a clue why WHLT isn't broadcasting in HD?

They're stuck in stretch-o-vision. This wouldn't happen if they would leave everything in its proper aspect ratio.

22-1,22-2 and 22-3 are all in SD. It's a problem through Comcast and OTA and it started in the last week or so.
I know I can't be the only one with this problem in Hattiesburg.

I have checked on my converter box and it has a indcator that is on when hdtv is broadcast and 22.1 is broadcasting in hd , as for the "stretch-o-vision" look for the zoom button on your remote it will step you through the different aspect ratios
the zoom only works when they are broadcasting in HD , you can try it on a SD or other type of broadcast and it will just blink

My TV says 22-1 is broadcasting in 1080i, but it is not in 16:9 mode I can assure you.

I tried zoom and it did not work.

I got no response to my e-mail I sent to WHLT. If this is isn't resolved by Thursday, I can assure you they will be getting a phone call from me.

There will be a lot of ticked people around here on Sunday if the Super Bowl isn't in HD.

I e-mailed the station manager last night & got 2 replies this morning. Here's his latest reply:

"The problem has been resolved. It was CBS 22's problem. Our switcher in Jackson was switched to Standard Digital and wasn't switched back to HD. Thank you for letting us know. Go Saints!"

I'm at work right now & can't check to verify it's been fixed. I'll check tonight.

I just got home & checked. National programming is back in HD, but regional & local is still in stretch mode for some reason.

Unfortunately, that's the way it's been since they flash cut to digital. I think it has something to do with their being a "satellite station." During syndicated programming, I either squeeze 22.1 or switch to 22.2.

On another note, did any of you have problems with the WDAM signal during the severe storms Sunday night? I was watching 7.2 and during the height of the storm, the station's satellite feed of ThisTV would be lost for a second or two during the intense lightning flashes. At my location 7.5 miles away from the transmitter, my signal remained rock solid throughout - no dropouts or pixelizations. This is with an 8-bay UHF antenna (4228) behind a concrete wall. I'm very impressed so far.

WHLT is out today OTA but Comcast has it. I'm located by Turtle Creek Mall. Anyone else have same?

Does anyone know what the coverage area for WDAM is?

I live in Lumberton, MS which is roughly 25 miles south of Hattiesburg, yet the digital channels I pick up is out of Biloxi and Gulfport, like WHLT, WXXV, and WLOX.

I have yet to see an ounce of a signal from WDAM.

Sarentak,

Lumberton itself is about 32 miles from WDAM's tower but you should be able to pull in good signal with an outdoor antenna. Can you describe your setup?

Hi all
I have recently moved and signed up for Directv. I quickly learned that none of my local channels are actually local. That's not usually a problem except Fox NY is (shockingly!) uninterested in broadcasting the Saints game on Sunday. I have an indoor Philips SDV6122 antenna that I have just purchased. When I searched for available channels on the antenna website there is no Fox channel listed. I am picking up NBC and CBS just as the site indicated I would be able to. What channel should I be searching for Fox on? Is it possible to pick up Fox in Hattiesburg using an indoor antenna? I goggled and found some references to using a Directv receiver to get Fox in Hattiesburg. Does my Directv receiver have an antenna I can use? Sorry I am such a neophyte to this subject. I've had cable (and therefore locals channels!) the whole time I've lived here until now.

Thanks for any advice!

You won't get Fox with an indoor antenna. It's in Gulfport. It is channel 25.

In some areas of Hattiesburg, you may not even be able to decode WXXV with a good outdoor antenna, as the company that owns that station is being really cheap with the ERP. A high frequency like channel 48 needs a higher ERP than 300 kw due to higher path loss.

I've noticed that some folks have been able to pick up HD stations using just their Comcast coaxial cable. I know this because I can do it at my office and my parents are able to do it in the Jackson area.

But every time I try to auto program, I can't bring up any digital stations.

Any advice?

I have a Vizio HDTV with built-in antenna and was receiving all of the local channels in HD as well as comcast analog cable channels. I've hooked up the digital adapters comcast sent, due to there switching to all digital. Before this, our cable was running directly from the wall into the tv. Now it's running from the wall into the box and the box to the tv.

Needless to say, I've lost all my 1080i local network hd channels (ota).

Is there a splitter or some other device I can hook up between the tv and comcast's box to switch the cable from the tv to the box and vice versa?
I'm too cheap to upgrade to there hd digital box, lol.

WHPM ch.23.1 (Fox) is on the air now.
I live out in Petal and just tonight was able to pick up a very weak signal of the new Fox station. How is it coming in for everyone else?
I saw where WLOX is planning on adding CBS on 13.2/39.2, and WXXV is adding NBC on 25.2/48.2.

When this happens, will this affect how you watch WDAM and/or WHLT? (I'm from Hattiesburg, and I lurk a lot on this board. My home market is Columbus/Tupelo, and I'm always interested in developments from my hometown )
This could lead to WDAM adding an ABC subchannel down the road, displacing WLOX. Raycom has been doing this in several of their markets, including Biloxi.
I wondered that as well, WDAM possibly adding ABC. I wonder what would happen to This TV or Bounce TV; if one or the other (most likely This TV) moving to a WHPM subchannel.

Now... where is ThisTV going?

If I were still living in the Pine Belt I'd invest in a long-range antenna and mount it as high as possible.

Nice job copy and pasting WLOX's CBS answers.

"The new channel will air a full schedule of ABC programming, including the top-rated primetime shows in the country; all ABC Sports programming, including SEC and NFL football, the NCAA Basketball tournament and major golf and tennis championships; ABC News and Late night shows."

SEC football hasn't been on ABC since 1995, unless they are talking about the SEC Network games at 11am or Noon. ABC no longer carries NFL football since moving Monday Night Football to ESPN in 2006 and the NCAA Tournament has been on CBS since 1982.

That's what was provided by WDAM. They really should have proofread before posting. (Personally, I don't watch any sports )

I live in Lamar county (south Hattiesburg, Richburg Road area) near hwy 11 and 59 intersection on a very high hill. If I use an outdoor antenna, which channels should I expect to receive?
Which antenna would be best for me?

Thanks
