WHINE WHINE WHINE!
That all I see on the AVS forums:
  • DISH is beeter than DirecTV
  • DirecTV is better than Dish
  • Monster Cables are the best
  • Monster Cables suck
  • The Denon 2800 is the best DVD player ever
  • The Denon 2800 has a chroma bug
  • The ROCK rocks
  • The ROCK sinks
  • The Die Hard Trilogy is an excellent transfer
  • The Die Hard Trilogy can cause blindness because of excessive EE
  • And on and on and on we go...

About the only thing we can agree on is that Phil T. is a bonehead.

Come on guys, what is this all about, really? I believe it has nothing to do with quality, the absolute sound or the perfect vision.

It's all testosterone posturing! Plain and simple! And we know what that means - the size of our manhood!

So let's put a stop to this constant bickering . . .

OK, I need to lay down some new rules on the AVS (even if jm's is bigger)
  • No more topics on Fox/HD. Who would want to see their crappy shows in 1080i? - even 480p is too good for most of them. Let's move on!
  • Folks who think LDs have better pictures are in serious denial (or need laser surgery or new perscriptions). Again, this is about letting go of the past. Get therapy now. My best friend has reasonable rates; drop me an email.
  • Tippi Hendren's acting in The Birds sets a new standard . . .
  • If you squint just right, the real world will have severe red push & EE. This is reality - deal with it (see above)
  • Never mind what he says, Alan G's favorite DVD player is the Sony 9000ES
  • Revel Salons will complete you as a human being
  • Forget Dish/DirecTV/cable/OTA. Put you finger in a wall socket; you will be amazed at the signals you can receive on your own.
  • Stacy Spears has actually never seen a DVD player. But man, is he convincing!

As you are a "newbie" you missed out on a bunch of the "old" questions that were asked and answered hundreds of times:

1. How do you convert RGB/VGA to Component?
2. How do you convert Component to RGB/VGA?
3. Can I buy a simple cable to convert RGB/VGA to Component?
4. Can I buy a simple Cable to convert Component to RGB/VGA?
5. My dish is properly aligned but I can't get the 199 HD demo channel.
6. When will Discovery HD Theater be out? (still no answer after almost 2 years of asking)
7. Will a 9" crt based HD RPTV resolve all of the 1920 Hort. pixels versus a 7" crt HD RPTV?

Oh and by the way...if HD is your game than DISH is better than DirecTV because:

1. It offers a 24 hr HD PPV channel
2. It offers Showtime HD
3. It will be offering CBS-HD

BTW, I'm anything but a newbie - wanna see my battle scars? I guess what pushed me to start this wacky thread is another round of Dish/DirecTV grandstanding here an AVS. You are right: Dish makes sense if you want HD choices; DirecTV has the NFL ticket.

Of course, this all may become moot, if Charlie's latest offer goes through...

Shame on you. Do you realize this is the only thread on AVS that hasn't posted that the Cubs/Rockies game will be in HD on Dish and DTV this week. And furthermore, how can you start and run a thread without a comment on your position on DVI/HDCP etc.? What is the point of a thread if it doesn't discuss those two items? Oh, yeh, by the way, C/Ku-Band TVRO is waaay better than Dish or DTV. It's no wonder 'mine is bigger than yours'. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
