I have the Sony HT 6600DP, and while I agree that out of the box with the supplied cables and wire, Sony systems sound like they could use a bit more "umph" so to speak. I have my speakers wired with 14 guage AR wire with banana plugs at the receiver end, and pin connectors at the speaker ends. I use AR performance series cables for my subwoofer, digital coax and component connections. I couldn't be happier. Everything is clear and pronounced, and the bass is deep and filling w/o having that hollow sound ( the level control on the sub is only 1/4 of the way up). Regardless, when the low frequencies are really active, you feel it. My point is that I think that some systems get a bad rap simply b/c of the cheap wire they come with.
