Only that there are better sound meters available at a reasonable price. The Radio Shack meter is not the only sound meter available to forum members. I'm on our fourth sound meter and have found there's life outside of Radio Shack provided sound meters. As encouragement, folks can/should look further for their sound meter needs then Radio Shack. Just saying.

Disclosure, I have (currently in excellent working condition) and have had a Radio Shack digital sound meter for about fifteen years.

-10dB means the meter reading is down 10dB from actual. Always use C weighting. FWIW the capsule used in the RS meter is ubiquitous, it's used in most meters and many mics. You'd be looking at adding another zero to the price to get a significantly better capsule.
