They honestly vary with age of set, lamp replacements, size of TV. Many variables. People who qualify for an offer are given a choice of sets. My TV was a bit higher than average but still about 60% off going retail price at the time. Many variables but they do try to work with you.

TIA

My wife and I have been dealing with Sony now for about a month. Here is part of the email they sent and what they are offering us as replacement choices.

Thank you for contacting the Sony Exchange Dept.,

As discussed, we provided you an offer to replace your television.

KDL60EX700 $725.00 + local sales tax
KDL46EX710 $225.00 + local sales tax
KDL40EX500 No Charge

We have been contacted several times on the phone by different people and have also posted on the Facebook page. We have told them that this offer to replace our 60" set with a 40" set at no charge is just not acceptable. I have asked if they would come down a bit more on the 60" and i am willing to pay a bit but they will not budge on any of the discounted prices. At this point we will not be purchasing another sony tv. We have always had good results with previouse products but now they have left a bad taste for me.

Hope other people have better luck.

Good luck bro. Sony really doesnt have to do squat to replace the TV. If you got the EX700 (which is light years ahead of your old tv) you would come out way ahead. You cant get a 2000 tv for 725 dollars anywhere. I had a 50A2000 that failed after 4 years of use but its out of warranty. I am happy that sony is replacing at a discounted rate.

I second gdog. Why do you feel "entitled" to get a 60" TV free of charge when your TV like so many others failed out of warranty. Name one other TV manufacturer that is offering replacement TVs from free to way below wholesale as an accommodation. Most all early HD technologies failed, either with OB issues, stupid color wheels, picture burn-in issues. Has Samsung offered replacements to their customers who have 2.5-7 year old TVs? How about Panasonic and Mitsubishi? I paid a bit more than you for my KDL-52EX701 and it was a great deal and a nice accommodation. The folks at IHADS banned me for speaking the truth and lied to others saying I was a Sony spy...how stupid...This occurred last April. You will notice that most people who complain there disappear because they have accepted offers and are happy. If you feel that Sony is being unfair, then you can certainly go out and buy a new Samsung, LG, etc and pay retail. I am VERY happy with my new Sony and certainly it was a lot cheaper than going out to buy one at a store.

well I can tell you I sure as hell dont work for sony. I was just trashing them last week when I thought they may NOT replace my tv when it was obviously yellow but I sent additional pics and I am awaiting my ex700. This is a GREAT deal offered by sony and to be honest I dont know any manufacturer of ANY high priced piece of electronics equipment doing anything like this so instead of feeling you are entitled to a free tv(for something you USED for at least 4 years) consider yourself lucky. And if you dont want the free TV send it my way.

Thinking of buying new lamp and housing. I'm at 7250 hours on current lamp. Interested in what others have done, and where they've bought from. If you'd rather not post, please send a PM. Thanks.

Be sure to get one with the allen wrench tool... it's easy to do from the front of the TV, and your picture will probably be brighter. You are correct to get the lamp with the housing - a lot of places sell the lamp only and that would be a unnecessary pain.

If memory serves: Pop off the front gray panel that has the words HDTV. There's an access door with a screw lock to access the lamp+housing. It's a matter of loosening the allen screw (it stays on the housing, the screw doesn't fall off), then pull the housing back and slightly up to disconnect and remove. Do that process the other way around for the replacement lamp.

I got mine off eBay from a place called gear4less, but they don't seem to carry the XL-2200 lamp at the moment.

Good luck!

Our 55sx955 got the blue blob problem awhile ago, called up Sony and they offered us three choices.

KDL-55ex710 - $425
KDL-46nx810 - $610
KDL-40ex500 - Free

We decided to go with the 55ex710, should be here within the next couple of days, according to the tracking information. I know people with different models were being offered the 55ex710 for as low as $100, but $425 is a solid deal. Still very disappointed that our $3,600 television only lasted a little over three years though.

I picked one up from Vann's a couple months ago. It's really easy to do, and I agree with the above comment to get the one with the allen wrench, since the screw is set deep, a standard size allen wrench doesn't really work.

Here are my offers

KDLE55X710 $425.00 + local sales tax
KDL55HX800 $775.00 + local sales tax
KDL55NX810 $860.00 + local sales tax
KDL46NX810 $610.00 + local sales tax
KDL40EX520 $150.00 + local sales tax

I am going to go with the KDL55X710 and sell my LG 47LH40, I may even make break even or make a little from this deal if I sell the LG for $550, got it for $700 out the door

Does anyone know how one qualifies for replacement? What if you are not the original owner but have the original receipt?

I believe they ask for a picture of the problem and the serial number sticker from the back of the set.

Im having an issue with My KDF60XS955. The TV runs for 20-30 seconds and then shuts off. Green light flashes about 30 times and then picture comes back on. I replaced the bulb, but think the ballast is bad.

The XS955 TV uses a 1-468-875-11 ballast, the bulb is an XL2200 at 120 watts. I have a ballast from a KDS60A2000 part number 1-474-012-21. the A2000 bulb is an XL5200 at 150 watts.

Does any one know if I can swap out the XS955 ballast that is not working for the A2000 ballast?

Let me know, Thanks, Jakemir

Long time lurker, finally registered to post about my KDF60XS955.

I was expecting at some point to have my OB fail, and it has started to do just that, the blue blob is spreading, getting worse all the time.

I will likely attempt to take out the OB and send it to JJB200 for repair, but in the meantime, here is the offer I received from Sony. (Bear in mind I`m in Canada):

KDL55EX620 - $375 (plus taxes)
KDL60EX720 - $1700 (plus taxes)

Sent a message to Scott Fuentes on facebook, not sure if he can help me since I`m in Canada.

Will keep you all posted after I connect with Scott.

Does anyone have the directions on how to replace your Thermal Fuse? Mine went on my old KDF55, and I want to replace it so the kids can use the TV in their playroom.

thanks in advance!

I contacted Sony about my 60XS955.

I was offered the following

KDL-46BX420 - $150 plus local taxes
KDL-40EX720 - $250 plus local taxes
KDL-55HX800 - $800 plus local taxes

I should have the new 55" in about three weeks. That same tv is sold at Costco for $1500 so I consider it a good deal.

I contacted Sony about my faultly 55XS955 and got the following offers:

kdl60ex720 for $1243 + local sales tax
KDL55NX810 $875.00 + local sales tax
KDL46EX720 $375.00 + local sales tax
KDL40EX720 $250.00 + local sales tax

I only have a couple of days left to decide. I don't want the 46 or 40. So I'm between the 60 and 55- slightly different models. Any advice? Any other models I should ask to see if I can get if i'm looking for a 55" TV that's 1080p/240 Hz with wifi?

Just wanted to let everyone know, I contacted Sony Support just now, and they've never heard of "Sony Listens", and there is no replacement program going on. This deal that "Sony Listens" is offering people is a scam.

There is NO such support from Sony called Sony Listens!!!

And AVS needs to be informed of this IMMEDIATELY! Sony Listens is a SCAM!!!

Hello and Happy 4th of July. I am a long time lurker and want to thank everyone in advance for any advice they are willing to give me. My Sony KDF-60XS955 has the "Blue Blobs" and is no longer viewable. I contacted Sony Listens and was offered the following:
KDL55EX710 $550.00 + local sales tax
KDL60EX720 $1375.00 + local sales tax

I cannot be out that much money at this time and I would not object to a smaller, free offer. I have noticed an Evelyn Perez with Sony Listens that seems to post on this forum. Should I attempt to contact her? Is she helpful? What do you think are my options? Thank you again...

OK,,, So Sony just replaced my KDF55WF655 through there Sony Listens Program,, Thank You Sony !!! I am now the owner of a 55 inch kdlEX500,, Very Nice indeed.
MY old TV the KDF 55WF655 was a bad Qblock according to my tv repair guy, I replaced the qblock but the tv still dosnt work right. Change the bulb also didnt help any,, So any Knowledgeable people have thoughts what it could be ??? When you turn the TV on it works for a minute or so then the bulb/picture stops working,,red light flashes and keeps cycling through ,,
post #2754 of 2816
You guys who expect replacements for your XS series sets are seriously deluded. Sony has been GREAT about offering replacement flat screens at great prices for owners of all their rear projection LCD's.

I'm in the process of reading back in this thread, so sorry to ask a question that probably been asked.

I actually have a 50WE655 and my original lamp just died tonight after 6.5 years. I'm not sure how many hours, but I feel like a watch a lot of TV.

Where is the absolute best place to get a replacement for a good price? I see the Sony site has it for $200, and I see other sites selling it for $65 (although I read those sites are bad and that they are knock-off bulbs).

Any sites you can recommend?

Thanks.

EDIT: How does this one sound from Ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-XL-2100-XL2...item4aa5dcf36f

OR

Should I just buy a geniune Sony part like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/GENUINE-SONY-OEM...item3cba22c05f.

I would not get a cheap bulb. I have heard that cheap bulbs can give off more heat and damage the optical block. In any event, the higher heat from a new bulb may damage the block anyway. At that point you will either have to have it rebuilt, or hope that Sony will still offer a discounted replacement for you.

Thank you. That is what I was thinking, spend the extra money and get the genuine Sony part.

Thanks.

Not sure about your model, but with the XS955 it should include the hex key (allen wrench) to remove and replace the lamp.

Last question ... from looking at Ebay listings, there are two that sound like original lamps, but I don't know the difference.

http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-XL-2100-XL2...item4aa5dcf36f

This one says it is a Osram bulb (with housing) and that it is what is installed in the TV's when they leave the factory.

http://cgi.ebay.com/GENUINE-SONY-OEM...item3cba22c05f

This one actually shows a picture of a Sony box.

Are they the same thing or not?
