Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Personally, I prefer the gameplay of Far Cry to HL2. Enemies have better AI. Much of Far Cry is not nearly as linear or as scripted as HL2. There are often multiple ways to complete an objective, making the game much more replayable. The outdoor maps in Far Cry are HUGE, and your given the tools(enemy locater binoculars, awsome sniper rifle) to use them to your advantage. As a whole Far Cry is a more challenging game to beat, especially late in the game
Don't get me wrong, I loved HL2, but Far Cry is probably the best FPS I've ever played, although the story sucked. Obviously you're never going to like it, which is fine, all this kind of stuff is subjective.
