I think the demos showed off the graphics more than the first couple levels of the game, nothru22.

I haven't checked it out yet, but for informative purposes, what games would you say have better graphics than Far Cry?

That's a good question. It depends on how you define good graphics but I'll just assume we're talking about realism...

I'd definitely (and this is all off the top of my head) say Half Life 2, in my book. Doom 3 also did some things better but the whole "cover it up with darkness" detracts a bit. There are also some of the newer sports games on the consoles that get the "realism" a bit better when played in 720p.

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of atm.

A console that has better graphices than Far Cry at high settings?????????????????????????

Now you are really flying off the rocker. I will not defend Far Cry because I know it does not need my help. It is simply a lot better than HL2, DOOM3, and yet it is a very fun game. If you are not a huge FPS gamer, than maybe not. To me and all of the people I know, when it is at max settings on my AE700 at 1280x720 at 110", there is nothing that looks better......not even. Half life will come the closest, but doom really sux.

Far Cry is the BEST game I have ever played for 1 person. Immersion, sound, environment etc....the only minor caveat being the cut scenes.Just remember how old this game is.

Crap, I said I was not going to defend.....just so easy........

Here's what I'd suggest:

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Dungeon Siege
The Longest Journey
Baulders Gate 1 and 2
Command and Conquer (any of them, old and new)
Ultima 7 and Ultima 7 pt. 2
Kings Quest 5
The Dig

You can change the graphics for Far Cry in the menu...

There's paradise, realistic, cold and a few other settings I can't remember.

I'd go as far to say as the first two levels of Far Cry make me not want to continue the game. How can it get so good?

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Personally, I prefer the gameplay of Far Cry to HL2. Enemies have better AI. Much of Far Cry is not nearly as linear or as scripted as HL2. There are often multiple ways to complete an objective, making the game much more replayable. The outdoor maps in Far Cry are HUGE, and your given the tools(enemy locater binoculars, awsome sniper rifle) to use them to your advantage. As a whole Far Cry is a more challenging game to beat, especially late in the game

Don't get me wrong, I loved HL2, but Far Cry is probably the best FPS I've ever played, although the story sucked. Obviously you're never going to like it, which is fine, all this kind of stuff is subjective.

I guess this is really one of those love it or hate it games. What did it in for me was when I reached this 2-level structure with about 4 baddies. Shooting 1 on the 1st level alerted the other 3 on the top level. But instead of going down stairs they just kept shouting and running back & forth. Reminded me A LOT of Timesplitters.

I know the developers have talent, and I did like how you can approach an objective from multiple non-linear angles.
