American Idol on Fox - Page 7

In my opinion, Anwar Robinson is amazing. I am going to shoot myself if he doesn't win. He is too damn good.

Also I CANNOT BELIEVE that David Brown was cut. In his original audition he did THE BEST version of "Change Is Gonna Come" that I have EVER heard bar none. In fact it was one of the best male vocal performances I've ever heard. So disappointing to see him go, but his performances in hollywood were not so good at all. I don't know what happened but I was extremely upset with his outcome. Hopefully he will return next season.

But for now I really want Anwar to win. I liked Scott Sable a LOT from the start as well, but he is starting to bore me a bit. And Bo Bice is starting to grab my attention, especially after his last performance of "I'll Be."

I never watched the other American Idols, and I only started watching this one because it's in HD, but man this show is extremely entertaining. Atleast the male portion (none of the girls really stand out to me).

Seriously, no one should be shooting anyone (let alone themself) over American Idol.

Please discuss this with friends, loved ones, or professionals.

I was being sarcastic. But to say these people have no talent is just stupid. Please don't tell me you're one of those people.

The music industry is NOTHING like it used to be. There is a reason why music is terrible now. This show could potentially "discover" some really good artists. If you can't agree with that then you're just being pretentious.

Rogo, I for one appreciate your excellent advice. American Idol is definitely not a show that someone should off himself or herself over.

Survivor, on the other hand ...

Not wanting to be called "stupid," I'll just say that these people have very little talent. Or, as Simon might say, I've seen better performers in multiple hotel lobbies.

But considering how gawdawful many groups come across on TV nowadays, I guess they've got as good a chance as anyone to be a Star.

Not in the 60', 70's, 80's sense, no. But her sound is a little harder than most female pop stars, so I think she has one foot in the rock genre. I think she'd do better in the rock genre than pop anyway.

It's not "Rock Idol." This show originated as "Pop Idol." I think several of the contestants have had real talent, and I find it an entertaining program.

Simon is the only judge whose feedback is consistently worthwhile, however. As nice as Paula is, her comments are typically worthless.
Does anyone know if they are going to have the wildcards like they had in past years? I just started watching, so I don't know exactly how they work, but I thought it was where the judges could bring back someone voted out at some point.

I don't think many of the contestants are especially talented (if they were, they'd be making records already) but it has made me appreciate just how difficult it is to perform songs in front of people. The pros make it look so easy and natural and they rarely make the mistakes that these people make.

I wish Randy and Paula would provide some real criticism more often. I think Simon exaggerates his commentary just to make up for the other two's fluffy remarks.

I read a quote from Janay that said the producers told her she couldn't wear her contact lenses because they mess with the HD cameras... splain me dat?

She was saying that she was not aware of her bug-eyed look until after her performance.
The bug eyes hadn't nothing to do with her lack of singing ability....

I would be shocked if Carrie Underwood didn't win. She has the look, the innocence, and the voice. As Randy once said, the most amazing thing about her is that she hadn't been discovered yet.

As far as the show goes, I've actually been quite impressed with how well it's looked on HD - kudos to Fox.

She looked truly RELIEVED when she got the boot!

Yes, this is quite a trial by fire -- therein lies the extreme human drama. Talent or no, these young folks have great enduring courage -- that is the GREATER part of the task and test. All the talent in the world, in the sense of being a technically gifted and proficient singer, gets one exactly nowhere without being able to demonstrate it to others, AND not only demonstrate it but give any audience a sense of ease, confidence and serenity in the demonstrating -- THAT to me is the greater talent than singing ability.

Look at all the very successful performers who don't sing very well or have even a particularly good sounding voice -- Rod Stewart comes to mind. Or witness that any comedian who has great comic sensibility in the writing but can't deliver a stand up routine, will not get laughs. The reverse of course being that unfunny material can be winningly presented to great effect. Even the mighty Johnny Carson got some of his best mileage out of jokes that bombed.

Clearly in Idol there are those who can't believe they made it so far and are very uncomfortable with this spotlight. They will continue to self-destruct over the weeks -- even those who imagine that they want nothing more, BUT something in them does NOT want it even more. Janay was one of this category. Constantine is another -- that is what I read in his performances week too weak: "this is the week I get found out -- I KNOW it!" -- but so far he lives on. There is time to reverse these self-appraisals in both directions. I believe they all have some high degree of native talent singing -- probably the best overall talent of any year.

But the TELLING talent of mastery of the stage is a different order of human altogether -- the most commonly held fear of all people is to stand and deliver -- and in this crucible, the pressure is intense: before an audience NEVER before equaled in all human history, a one-way ticket to palookaville or sudden wealth and notoriety beyond any previous dreams.

Good luck all. Yes, too bad David Brown failed his test -- he had genuine talent. Same with the purple-haired opera girl who flunked out of secondary auditions. But this is natures way.

"But to say these people have no talent is just stupid."

Where did I say that?
For those of you who don't like Constantine, here is the ranking of Yahoo searches for each contestant, top to bottom. Read 'em and weep.

Bo Bice
Constantine Maroulis
Carrie Underwood
Mikalah Gordon
Anwar Robinson
Anthony Fedorov
Lindsey Cardinale
Jessica Sierra
Nadia Turner
Mario Vazquez
Scott Savol
Vonzell Solomon

Who knows how that translates to votes, though.
If it means anything, an online gambling site has the following in order favorite to underdog:

1) Anwar Robinson
2t) Carrie Underwood
2t) Bo Bice
4) Mario Vasquez
5) Nadia Turner
6) Anthony Federov
7) Vonzell Solomon
8) Jessica Sierra
9t) Constantine Maroulis
9t) Scott Savol
11) Mikalah Gordon
12) Lindsey Cardinale

This is different than after the first week when they had Carrie Underwood as the favorite and Anwar Robinson & Mario Vazquez close behind. I still predict Carrie to win, but her last two weeks have been shaky at best.
Carrie is going to gain a lot of momentum when they start doing themes. She will be able to handle any type of music they throw at her where Bo will suffer from some genres. I'm not sure about Anwar yet but i think he will also shine when asked to do different types of music.

Can't wait to hear her impression of Loretta Lynn doing a James Brown song. :)

Is that something like James Brown doing "Coal Miner's Daughter!!!"

You obviously have no idea how different the music recording industry is now, in comparison to 20+ years ago.

Do you realize that for instance, Fiona Apple has a CD that she cannot get released because they feel she doesn't have the right appeal? Her other two albums did EXTREMELY well (and are great demo CDs), and her newest work is just as good from what I've heard.

Let me ask you this... what musicians do you find talented? Give me some examples.

No thanks, I'll just quit now.

Don't see how it wasn't appropriate though. American Idol = topic.

Yes, I saw that in their website. What happened ?
Mario left for "personal reasons."
I wonder if the pressure got to him or someone signed him for a record deal :)
That's weird. Not a word about it on the website, just the 12 now includes Nikko instead of Mario.
