Audio Distribution Cabling Question

post #1 of 2

Firstly, thanks to all who contribute on this forum I've learned a lot in the last couple of weeks on home automation from you. But here's a question I have that I haven't found an answer for.

I'm In the process of building a new house and want to set-up the cabling so that I don't restrict myself on a final solution for the actual audio distribution product.

I will have sources in 3 rooms, and will distribute to 6-8 locations. At each of the locations I will have a keypad to at least select the source and control volume.

So heres the question, what cable(s) should I run from;

a) source to central distribution point
b) central distribution point to keypad
c) keypad to speaker.

I am not adverse to running multiple types of cables if it keeps my options open.

thanks

a) rg6(x 2) for line level (rca cables) and cat5 (for control - ir etc)
b) speaker wire for signal and cat5 (for control - ir etc)
c) speaker wire for signal
