vper - The search function is your friend. There is a long running thread that discusses this here.

Maybe we should leave this thread open for those that did not watch on SciFi and don't want to be spoiled as they watch the first season on UHD?

LOL ... Better edit the thread title quick then
post #6 of 1061
I'm more of lurker in these programming threads than a poster, but I'd like to see some discussion of the episodes as they play out on UHD. I realized I was missing a good series too late to start watching it on Sci-Fi. Now that it's in HD, I'm glad I missed the first run.

I didn't watch the original Lorne Greene series, so all this is new to me. The mini-series was pretty good, and the tension-filled "33" was really good.

Where do I get a "chip" like Balthar's to create such a cool imaginary friend? I might never leave the house.

It would appear that you've changed your policy since this happened, then?

If we're to keep this thread to discuss the program called Battlestar Galactica, then the thread title should contain the program title, IMHO. Otherwise, even those who use the search function with due diligence might miss the thread.

Good idea, I waited until it came to Uni-HD myself...

So, given that, here's my first question..

I missed about 10-15 mins of the first episode, "33". Did the fact that they jumped every 33 mins have any significance to it, what it a number pulled out of thin air, or..?

I don't know if this answers the right question, but they figured out that 33 minutes was exactly the amount of time it took for the Cylons to track them down and show up whenever they jumped to a new spot.

I don't recall if they said exactly how many times it happened prior to the start of the show, but I got the impression that it had been happening at that cycle time for several days.

The only other "possible" significance is that the number "3" is significant in religion. In christianity, Holy Trinity, Christ rose on the third day, etc. In our church (Greek Orthodox) many rites, rituals, prayers, etc. are done three times. In Hinduism-Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva.

Okay, I suspected that it was something like this, but not seeing the very beginning of the episode I wasn't sure.
Right. It took the Cylons 33 minutes to track the fleet each time they 'jumped'. But just how were the Cylons finding them? I'm not tellin. BTW, (producer) Ron Moore pulled the number '33' out of thin air. Or, so he stated in his blog at SciFi, if I remember correctly.
They had said it was 4 or 5 days - 230 or so consecutive jumps.

Title edited.

I think 33 minutes allowed math geeks to impress their friends with quick calculations of the days/hours/minutes the crew had gone without sleep. We lesser mortals needed the title boards.

BTW, what's the consensus, is Balthar delusional, or did Six put a chip in his brain?
I vote chip - or I want some of whatever he's taking if it's just his imagination.

... and I rounded the 33 to an even half-hour to make easier calculations - I guess I'm just a lazy math geek.

Which explains the great Larry Bird's (#33) career!

I just ordered the whole season from Amazon UK...I'm an impatient sort of guy.. Plus it has a 5.1 soundtrack...

Nice Box Cover!

Do you think the US release date will come around July to coincide with the start of the 2nd season?
Not sure if it has a release date for the US yet.
I read somewhere (probably the Digital Bits Rumor Mill page since I can't find confirmation anywhere) that the Region 1 set of this series will be released in September.

It doesn't have a DD5.1 soundtrack on UHD? That sucks.

I take it that you have a good region-free DVD player; I considered ordering this, but I don't. Enjoy.
The miniseries was DD 2.0 (Sounded great in Logic 7 7 channel), but the 13 episode season is in DD 5.1.

A Denon 5900, with SDI and multi-region mods feeding an iSCAN HD+, so yeah, it's a good one...

I don't think UHD has 5.1 do they? I really haven't watched much on it lately so I can't be sure...
Personally I have a heck of a time with this thread because I'm one of those who waited for it to show up on UHD, so I'd appreciate no more spoilers, but no biggie.
There hasn't been any spoilers yet has there...?
