You have to understand that for some people, their $100 is like your $10,000, and therefore all they can afford. ;)

Craig
My good friend Soundstage is quite well off, he uses $100 bills as kleenex ... and trust me, tossing this much $$$$ into these speaker got a REAL eyebrow raise from my wife ....

I love it! Anybody who doesn't select the speaker HE thinks is superior is, of course, unknowledgeable. So much for SUBJECTIVE OPINION.

2. I feel for any Energy owners ... think about it, if, as a Veritas owner, you DON"T pick the 2.4i's, Soundstage will have you exiled !
But you will be able to sell them off at the end. The $100 is a simple wager. Once again I must add that the 2.4i is quite a bit more dear than the other "contenders".

They are $4500 U.S. ... And in an amazing coincidence, once you convert that into Canadian $$$$, the amount is the same as Canada's defense budget ... :p

But of course if they select the energy speakers they know what a great speaker sounds like. And everybody else will be unqualified to make such a determination. How some people don't get banned is beyond me.........

Wouldn't the 2.2i's be more in line with the cost of the Studio 100's?

I heard the 2.2(no i) a couple of years ago.....very nice speaker!

The 2.3i would fit the design of the others much better.

We have the $1240 M80ti's, the $1995 850's, the $2300 100 V.3's and the $4500 2.4 ti's ... This covers a pretty broad range, for sure.

It is possible the 850's will be replaced by a new speaker in the Ref line, by the way.

And we have ALL seen vairious claims made by the manufacturers, reviewers, AND posters on the various forums ... such as:

1. Sounds better than speakers three times the price.
2. The __________ (fill in blank) speakers are SO much better than __________ (fill in blank) speakers, because of ____________________ .. fill in several blanks.
3. The __________ (fill in blank) speakers are bright, soft, warm, muddled, accurate, etc...etc...etc...

THIS will be a chance for people to put his money where his mouth is.... :)

Thus, the wide array of prices within the same Genre'...

I currently own the Paradigm 100 V.3s and the Veritas 2.8i and I have owned Rockets in the past.

In a few hours of instant AB testing I liked the VR-4jrs more than the Paradigms, Rockets, and Veritas. Of the bunch, however, I really like the Veritas.

I have some VS right now too. Great speakers as well.

I've got to hear a pair of those VR-4jrs.

As much as I like the Veritas stuff, they don't get much play here on AVS.

Craig, if you replace the 2.4i's with the VR-4jr's, it might make for more interested parties.

No the Energy don't get a lot of play and it's unfortunate as they're stunningly good across the board.

Brian ... Having someone experienced with the Energy line up will be GOOD ! ... We need more Paradigm and Energy owners ... :)
Craig,

I know you can't accomodate every request but I feel that the VR-Jrs will fit into this line-up perfectly! Especially since in my experience they have the best top-to-bottom coherence when specfically matched against the speakers that will be there.

Guys - Part of the reason for the speakers selected was street price ... The VS speakers ARE a great design, but are pretty much $4000 all the time.

The Veritas are not hard to find for under $3000 for the pair ...

NOW ... after THIS test is done, perhaps we will do something in the future with the VS, the 2.4i's and the Ref 3's I already have... :)
OK...that's understandable. Street vs. list pricing sometimes are very different and should be noted.

I thought I read a thread once where someone got a pair of Studio 100's for under $2K.

The typical street prices for the other three speakers ... Take 5% off the Axioms, 20 % off the Paradigms and 25 % off the Rockets ... So yes, Getting a pair of 100 V.3's for $1800 to $1900 is not unusual ...
OK....I understand the Paradigms, but how do you get a discount off a pair of the internet direct offerings?
Here's what we do. We have shootout number #1. We then take the bona-fide winner and do round #2 w/ another group of speakers. A few rounds later we have the best loudspeaker in the world. ;)

Just look at what they do in system pricing ... and you will have the answer.

Oh...OK...you are talking about system pricing. We started out on retail pricing per pair, so I was sticking with that thought.

Curtis ... Do you REALLY think that, if you call these companies, and ask for the system price on a single pair, they will tell you no ? Come to think of it, for you, they might, as they know you LOVE paying full price ... :p
post #54 of 482
So you are saying if someone called AV123 and no sale was going on, they could get 25% off of an pair of "A" stock RS850's?

Curtis - I am not going to get into specifics on each speaker from each company. I am merely giving ideas to people as to what they can reasonably expect to do. I cannot guarantee that anyone can get a pair of 100 V.3's for less than retail, either. Some people DO pay full retail. Some negotiate.

I can tell you that I know people have gotten the types of discounts mentioned here.
OK....so in your estimation it is reasonable to expect 25% off on a pair of RS850's, 5% on the M80, and 20% on the Studio 100.

Just trying to get clarification on the pricing on all this stuff for comparison.

It is now time for me to pay full price for my lunch. :)

Assuming one has good negotiating skills, yes. But, for you, I checked with Axiom ... and YOU get FREE shipping ... :p

Amie at Axiom was very nice to me. She shipped me M60's for free to demo, had a couple of people over to my house to listen to them, one person took them to his place to listen, back to my place, then someone bought them, and then another auditioner bought a pair from thier outlet.

Worked out well for all.

BTW, I am eating my full priced sushi right now. :)

As the purpose of this forum is to support and advise - NEVER eat Sushi purchased at half price from the "Day-Old" Sushi Outlet Store ... ;)
