CAV6.6 / MC11 link software - Page 30

post #871 of 980
Carl - I was hoping that you could help me out.

I have my CAV6.6 hooked up to my computer, and I can run your plugin. Unfortunately, it appears that the plug in can't talk to the CAV6.6. I thought that the problem was my COM port, but I've been able to successfully control the unit through commands sent directly by Docklight (a terminal app).

I initially had trouble with Docklight as well, until I got the Baud rates set properly.

Do you have any suggestions? I'd just love to use this thing!

Cheers

Great little program.

I've a couple of 'features' I'd be grateful if you could look into that I'm experiencing but I'm not sure if it's just me or the program.

- MC13 creates its own folders e.g. called 'Recently Ripped' or 'Recently Played' which you can delete but they keep re-appearing. They then show up on the Keypads as playlists. Is there anyway of just having a consistent list of playlists?

- The auto scroll feature, that jumps by track letter, that is supposed to activate after the track selection button is held down for a second or so only works very intermittently. Hence you need to scroll through large tracklists to get where you want to.

Not major problems in an otherwise excellent product.

Set the "GROUP=" parameter in your cav.ini file to something like GROUP=CAV. Then create a Playlist Group called CAV in JRMC and drag your playlists into it. The "Recently *" stuff will stay in the root and won't show on the keypads.

I know carl is pretty busy so maybe one of the other users can help me.

I moved MC12 and this plug-in to another computer, but i cannot seem to get the track/artist metadata to keep scrolling. When a song is first selected it scrolls the artist and song after that it only scrolls the source name and the time.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

EDIT: I just turned off the Displaytime feature in the .ini file and it works now.

Apart from the TS2 integration, I am now working on ACA-E5 support.

I know I'm late to the party but fehguy has not responded to my private message. Looking to donate/get an upgrade to v1.40. Can you help me out?

Thanks,

Any chance that card is labeled? Is it a third party card? I'm curious what wire protocol they use for RNET. Is it RS-422? Info on what that card contains might shed some light here.

Does anyone listen to internet radio (such as Radio Paradise) and see name/artist info on the keypads?

I used to see it in MC11 - the name field would update automatically from the stream and CAV66 sent this to the UNO's.

But in MC13 and now MC14, I can only see the info in MC. The name field stays blank (or I can rename it) and does not update.

Does that make sense? Any ideas?

Hey guys,

The link to download the cav66.exe software seems to be dead.. well on the JRiver page anyway. Is there an updated working link available?

Thanks
Mark

Does anyone know if cav66.exe works with MC14 and/or Vista 64-bit? I'm having trouble getting it to work on my system, and was wondering if either of those might be the problem. Other than that, my installation is plain vanilla -- 1 CAV6.6 controller and 6 UNO-S2 keypads zones, with Zone 1 on MC14 supplying the audio feed to CAV6.6 Source 1.

UPDATE: OK, I figured it out. Looks like the old M/F DB9 Serial cable I picked up in my computer graveyard closet was one of those Tripp-Lite UPS connector cables that have non-standard pinouts. Tried again with a proper Serial cable, and it worked great.

MC14 works great for me - on XP - don't think that's your problem.

I tried to write to this member but the message came back saying his mailbox is filled.

Anyone know where else to buy this?

Thanks

I've sent the author an email to see if he minds if I post a link. If he gets back to me, I can post a copy for download.

Sorry, guys - for some reason I didn't get informed about your posts (I guess if you don't login often enough, it stops sending reminders).

You can download v1.4 here.

I have been working on adding support for the UNO-TS2, and have mostly succeeded in getting it to work, however have really been struggling to find a way to support both the TS2 and the S2 together. Most of all I'm under the hammer at work the whole time, so haven't been able to find the days/weeks needed to make major modifications to the software.

hyslopc,

Have you gotten your software to talk to the UNO-TS2 yet? I have been looking into this solution as well as the CasaTunes solution, but CasaTunes hasn't figure out how to get feedback sent to the UNO-TS2 yet.

Thanks again for you great efforts!

Sorry, I just saw this post. Yes, I guess I am looking exactly for what you are trying to accomplish. We are running both TS2s and S2s in the installation I am working on as well, and that seems to be the missing link in the system I am working on. Trying to figure out how to controll both keypads using the same software. CasaTunes is also working on that issue, but they won't have a solution ready for some time. If yours could do teh just, it would be the first on the market apparently that would allow an external source to talk to both keypads concurrently. I am trying to get away from the SMS3 in favor of a solution like this, but it seems that the solution is just out of reach for the moment.

Yeah - ish. I have a version which works OK (not awesome, but OK) with the TS2, but it absolutely stinks on the regular keypads. It took absolutely AGES to work out how to get the feedback working on the TS2, and it'll be tons more work to get it to work well with both (if that's even possible, but I guess the SMS3 does it, question is how). If anyone wants to know, I can post the lowdown on how the TS2 feedback works here (didn't I already do that)?

If anyone could get me a trace of an SMS3 talking with both S2s and TS2s, that would help enormously. Russound has software you can use to trace the traffic.
post #888 of 980
I might have someone that can help with that. There is an SMS3 in the rack, but I will need to talk with the installer to get a trace out of it. I would love a link or explanation about the TS2 feeback if possible. Seems we might be close to solving some problems if I can get a trace for you.

Here's an interesting post about getting the communications working:

It's pretty simple when you know how. It's the usual set text command as documented (target path 1, 1, source path 1, 1). You have to set the Data to 0x20|SourceNum, 0x80|FieldNum, 7, and then the text. FieldNum is as follows:

TITLE_FIELD = 1,
ARTIST_FIELD = 2,
GENRE_FIELD = 3,
ALBUM_FIELD = 4,
PLAYLIST_FIELD = 6,
CHANNEL_FIELD = 7
post #891 of 980
Would it help if I can get a trace for you of the two keypads communicating with the SMS3?
post #892 of 980

Yeah, that would help a lot!

hyslopc,

Fyi, you can get the Russound RNet protocol analyzer/monitor software for free at the Russound documentation center (only requires an email address to sign up). Once in the documentation center, select the "Integration" category, then download the "Third Party Development Toolkit" zip file.

I believe what you're looking for are the "source broadcast display messages". These are reasonably well documented in the basic RNet protocol documentation manual and the "Reading RNet Messages" document (PM me if you don't have this second document). Although documented, it's very helpful to do the traces yourself If you look at the code I emailed you several months ago you should find the logic for sending the channel, artist, title, etc. display messages. This logic is based on the messages sent by my ST2-XM tuner but, I think, the SMS should be sending the same messages.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with additional questions.

All,

There are a couple of other Russound-related projects you might be interested in.

There is a new iPhone/iPod Touch control app for Russound named "LlamaPanel". I've beta-tested the next production version and it's very impressive. The app allows you to control every aspect of your Russound zones (up to 12 zones/two controllers), as well as presets, etc. for built-in tuners and Russound iPod devices (no SMS support yet). You can even see the keypad display on your iPhone/Touch! Search for it at the iTunes store, llamasoftware.net (check out the screenshots), or cocoontech.com.

I'm a big fan of both J. River Media Center and Logitech's Squeezebox platform. I've written a program that displays the Squeezebox's artist/title/etc. information on the Russound keypads and allows the keypads to control the Squeezebox (very similar to cav66.exe, but for the Squeezebox). Search for "SqzRuss" on the AVS Forums.

Note that these programs are not mutually exclusive. The free program Virtual Serial Ports Emulator (VSPE) allows you to have multiple programs accessing the serial port connected to the Russound controller. I've had all three programs running at the same time without any apparent conflicts (although you have to configure VSPE correctly to do this).

Happy to answer any questions.

I have looked at everything in the Russound document center. The details I just posted about are not documented there at all - if they were, it wouldn't have taken so long to work it out. I'm sure the protocol analyzer is useful for analyzing how cav66.exe works, but it doesn't help if you don't have anything to copy.

One more thing - thank you so much for the code you sent me months ago, however the ST2 and the SMS3 don't send the same messages. The ST2 messages are documented, the SMS3 messages are not.

Hyslopc,

I may have found what you're looking for... sent you an email.
post #898 of 980
Well, it had to happen eventually. I know I'll be using my system (and buying more stuff for it) for quite some time, mainly because of your incredible software solution Hyslopc!

Wow, that's a shame. I really liked the CAV/CAM systems. What are the replacements and will Hyslopc's software work with them?

Just FYI -- JRMC 15 has a "Media Network" feature that allows you to control JR's playback (on multiple zones) via the network. E.g. your notebook or iPhone becomes a remote. Streaming playback from your sever is also available.
