HELP! Panny TH-42PD25 image pushed 1/3rd off-screen! - Page 3

For everyone's information, this is how I ordered the test part from Panasonic (as of Nov 2006):

1. Called Panny at 800-211-PANA

2. At the voice prompts said the following:

"Customer Support" then "Parts and Accessories" then "Plasma TV" then "Buy Direct"

3. Got support person on the phone, asked for part # TNPX25JIG

4. Paid $28.12 (inc. S&H and tax) and gave my credit card and shipping info

5. Expect to get it in 7-10 days.

That's it.

And it worked like a dream. Only issue that I noticed was that all of my TV settings were reset to factory (or they weren't what they were before I fixed my set), so if you haven't written down your settings prior to fixing your TV, make sure you do so.

Thanks to Crabbon for doing the legwork.

I am so grateful for this board. I have used it many times.

On Monday, I turned my PANA 42PX25 on only to have the "1/3 screen loss" problem.

Thank you to all for this thread and for BuuZZi's forum. It has provided a lot of 411.

I just ordered the:
TNPX25JIG-EEPROM DATA JIG-$20.00
Online @ ************************

Will post results when I receive this and "EEPROM" my 42PX25.

Happy Holiday's too all !

Since I fixed the 1/3 screen shift problem with the Panny jig I intermittently lose audio on all over the air channels through the TV speakers. I have to do a factory reset to get it back. Audio through the optical output to my surround sound system continues to work fine when speakers aren't. Additionally, and unrelated to the audio issue, over the air channels will drop off and just go to black with "channel not available". If I change channel up or down one and go back to the original channel everything is fine again. Signal strength on these channels is >80 These are two separate problems so please don't combine the symptoms. Has anyone else seen this since using the Panny jig?

And thanks to "crabbon's" guide I was able to successfully fix my 42PX25 in no time for less than $30.

Thank you to this board, crabbon, and BruZZi for all the 411.

I have had this fix applied for about 1 1/2 months and I have not noticed any audio or channel signal strength issues.

That's my $0.02.

Add me to the list of people who've successfully made this work on a th42pd25. The only trouble I had was the sequence of buttons to enter service mode but once I'd figured that out it was a cinch.

Thanks to all above for this fantastic thread.

Glad you were able to fix the problem.

The same thing happened to me last year. I was 2 months out of warranty and Panasonic want to take it to a service center. I bought a HD upgrader from Ebay.
But I would like to get this 3k investment fixed right. This thread gave me some insight and I am trying to buy that EEPROM jig. Panasonic says they do not stock them anymore and I cannot fix TV cheap. No body got it online. I would be grateful If anyone can lease me a jig for few bucks. I will never buy a Panasonic in my life. TV and service sucks.

I just noticed that the analog inputs (e.g. Antenna A, Video 1) on my Panasonic TH-42PD25 are pushed off to the left so you only see the right 2/3rd of the picture. Even if I bring up the on-screen menu, it's pushed way to the left. The image is cut off and flush with the left-edge of the screen and the right 1/3 of the screen is black.

This only seems to happen on non-digital signals. For example, when using Antenna A, analog stations are pushed to the left and the left 1/3rd of the picture gets cut off. But if I switch over to a digital channel, the picture is fine and takes up the full screen.

I also tried playing a DVD. I've got my DVD player hooked up to both Video 1 and Component 1. On Video 1, the image is pushed off-screen. On Component 1, it's fine.

This problem is happening in modes Full, Just, and Zoom. In 4:3 mode, I can see the whole picture, but it is still pushed to the left.

99% of the time I am either watching my HD TiVo on the HDMI input or a DVD on the Component input, so I never noticed the problem. I know the problem wasn't there a few months ago. I just got the TV in October.

I have never messed with the service menus, so I don't think I've manually pushed the image off-center. I've tried unpluging the unit for 10 minutes but that didn't help.

Does anyone know what could cause this or how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Jay

hello

Thanks for this wonderful writing. My TH-42PD25U/P moved 1/3rd screen in 2005 after 14 months of purchase. I bought a HD up converter and was able to watch VCR. But now I know this happened to many people like me. I ordered the jig online and company says no stock. But when I called them ,they agreed to send one by mail. I will get that by this weekend. But I am confused about the location of this PA23 connector. Can you post a picture of the location of this connector. Mine got a service port like an SD card slot on the backside. Will the TV goes automatically to service mode when you connect this JIG and turn on?
Any help from anyone with similar experience is appreciated. Thanks

He has been very helpful to the point of discussing this Panasonic plasma issue with the 1/3 offset monitor on his own dime. He was absolutely correct as to how to fix the problem & I did it for less than $40.00.
I bought the TNPXJIG (test Jig) from Panasonic which now stocks this part that at one time was discontinued (I wonder why they decided to restock?? RIGHT!!). I received the part with no instructions at all but, thanks to Bruzzi's fantastic website and Crabbon's instructions I made it through the ordeal. However, I made one mistake of powering off the TV with the remote at the end of the programing instead of the power button on the tv and it locked me in the service mode without letting me have the option to set the sleep timer. Without being able to set the sleep timer I was not able to get in or out of the mode so I reset the TV by holding down the power button and the ok and it reset me back to normal.
At this point my PLasma is back in action and working great. Thanks to all the great people on this forum who have helped. It's because of you guys that people like me have the opportunity to keep from making a big costly mistake in service & parts.
One other thing, SHAME on PANASONIC for not openly coming forth on this issue which, after loosing my temper with the tech guy he finally admitted to me that there is an issue. They should fix this problem by issuing a recall notice! This is a freak problem not caused by the consumer. Just think how many people have probably paid the $600.00+ for the dg board and a service guy to come out to do the repair. Thats not right, especially after paying $2000.00 for their product.
I'm quoting Crabbon's work of instructions to hopefully continue to help others out there with this issue. DO NOT PAY FOR A DG BOARD! IF YOUR TV IS SKEWED IN 480I MODE ITS MOST LIKELY THE SOFTWARE UPDATE ISSUE. YOU CAN DO THIS UPDATE ITS VERY EASY!! CRABBON INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:
Thanks Everyone!!
Mike

1) Remove one screw in the back of the plasma in the top left to access connector PA23.
2) Plug in the EEPROM (the part # above), and turn on the unit.
3) Go to serviceman mode (BRUZZI'S WEBSITE HAS INSTRUCTIONS if the part does not have them as to HOW TO GET INTO SERVICEMAN MODE
4) Go to EEP "AREA" and press "OK"
5) Press > cursor button twice to select "15 9C FIX", press "OK"
6) Select EEP "EX > IN" and "15 9E _____" will begin flashing yellow/purple once data transfer starts. (about 30 seconds)
7) When EEPROM data update is done, the unit will turn off and back on.
Wait for it to power itself back on. (about 30 seconds)
8) Do some self checks if you like
9) Make sure to power off the TV with the button on the plasma! Not the remote
10) Disconnect AC cord, remove JIG, and turn it on.
10) Enjoy, your plasma is fixed!!!

This really works!!

I got the test jig. I cannot find this PA23 connection port. Can anyone guide me to identify this on a TH42PD25U/P. Thanks in advance.

ftaian,

you have to unscrewed a small panel located in the back of the unit, about 3 inches up and to the left of the center point of the unit.

Also, I just called Panasoni and they do not have the part. I call the parts and accessories department. What number did you call?

Maybe I can buy yours after your;re done with it.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone. Finally after two years, I fixed my 1/3 screen problem for as little as 30 dollars. Thanks to Bruzzi forum Crabbon Esoh and all the great guys at AVS forums.
Well, I guess I was late to the party. Panasonic told me the part is no longer available. I ended up forking up 100 bucks to an "authorized" repairman so he can plug the jig and fix the problem in 5 minutes. All good now.

Thanks Panasonic for screwing me up!

HELP. my tv has been screwed up for 8 months with video shifted 4" over. I need the TNPX25JIG to fix it. Panny has discontinued it. Does any one know where to purchase it? Anyone want to sell or lease it to me? thanks
post #79 of 275
That stinks. I looked on ebay for you guys, but there's none there. I called a couple vendors from a google search for it, but they didn't have any either. Maybe a good samaritan here on AVS will let you guys borrow or buy one from them.
I checked all repair centers within 100 miles and none have the TNPX25JIG to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone???
Glad to see so many people have been helped by such a small device (jig). Unfortunately, I see some are having problems ordering it. If, by chance, you have exhausted your resources and have tried all of the above suggestions, I still have my original JIG. Just send me a PM, and I'll get back to you, and we'll see if we can work something out. I would like it back when you are done, just in case.

And several have asked if anybody has experienced any problems with their tv since doing this fix. It's been several months for me, and I have yet to have another problem. Everything is working well.

It's been almost two years since a tech came out to fix my set and (knock on wood), it's been fine ever since.
Hi. It seems that I've got the same problem with the picture shifted left. I've got the Pany TH-42PX25 model.

So does anyone out there have a TNPX25JIG EPROM fix device out there? From the messages above, it's looking like you can't get it anymore from Panasonic parts. If someone bought one, I'd be more than happy to pay for it, or pay for round-trip shipping and return it back to you when I'm finished.

Thanks!

FYI - just got this info from Panasonic - hope this helps you all. Have the same issue on my 37" Plasma where I can only get a 3" horizontal strip of picture in all aspect modes except ZOOM on all analog input signals - HD is just fine. A little ticked that a service tech is charging me 85.00 for the test jig when he returns in 2 weeks to fix. He had better leave it with me so I can loan it to others who may have the same issue and wish to address it on their own.

Mike: sorry tnpx25jig eeprom test tool

Jonathan: Will research the corrected part number.

Jonathan: Yes, the Panasonic National Parts Center located in Kent, WA reflects that the EEPROM jig is available. However, the parts department is closed and web orders are not processed on the weekend. Would you like the phone number to the Parts Department so that you may call on Monday? Also, this part is only available to Authorized Panasonic Service Centers.

Mike: yes, thank you

Jonathan: You may contact the Parts Center at 1-800-332-5368 between the hours of 9 AM and 8 PM EST, Monday - Friday.

rdwhiz,

I just sent mine out to dsandhal, but he is planning on returning it when done. If you still haven't found the JIG, (probably a few weeks before I get it back), PM me and we'll see about you getting it next.
Thanks to Crabbon for loaning me his jig. It is scheduled to arrive this week. I will use it and Fedex next day air it back to Crabbon right away, so he can loan it to others.
Many thanks to those in this forum who had the know how to figure this out. Out of curiosity, how long does it take to update the software from the jig? My TV won't reboot on its own and was wondering if I just need to be patient or it is not working.
It's been awhile since I did the update, but I don't remember it taking very long. Probably less than 10 minutes, is my guess.
I just reread what I posted way back when on this forum to refresh my memory, and I believe from start to finish was like 10-15 minutes, and that included me reading the instructions several times and going very slowly.
