Harmony 880 at Best Buy - Page 5  

So what is everyones overall rating of the remote?(1-10) Ive heard what some of the issues are. But, what about feel and ease of use? Someone sell me!!!!

I'd give it a 9 out of ten now.

Don't like:
1. Button placement for some functions are not comfortable or not where I want them to be.
2. Buttons on lower half are (at this point) more difficult to use "by feel." They are not as individually distinctive as previous remote. Probably just need to get use to the different tactile experience.

Do like:
1. Reduction from 5 to one remote. (Actually, typically only needed 2 or 4 to run system)
2. Easy to program
3. Extremely flexible in setting up activities, changing buttons, learning commands, etc. However, it takes some effort to learn all the capabilities.
4. Tech support excellent.
5. Looks good
6. So far, does everything I need it to do better than previous remote.

Yes, it does, if I shake it?! There is a slight rattle in the head section. Guess I'll not shake it any more.

With this being my first middle-end remote control I am very well pleased with it...After downloading the newest software and removing some spyware which was preventing me to access their "connectivity" page...I have some small tweaking with the way my projector shuts down, it needs to be confirmed twice in order to shut down, which the Harmony doesn't recognize. It shuts everything down except the projector. That is only a minor issue(hopefully be resolved later tonight). Does anyone know if the TV Guide is going to be functional on this unit???

I read earlier in the other Harmony 880 thread that the TV guide was not included in this remote.

Though I've seen reference to it somewhere on the Logitech website (FAQ? Manual?), it referred to keys that either did not exist or functioned differently from described.

Just got ours in Lincoln, Nebraska at Best Buy. Truck had four today, sold all four within half an hour (2 employee, 2 by the installer to one of his clients).

Keep calling your local BBs, and remember not ALL BB folks are as moronic as some out there.

FYI,
The Reading, PA BB got in the remotes but only 1 reportedly went to a customer, the others went to employees (and even some of them were upset as they didn't get one). This is disappointing if they are going to be the "exclusive distributor" initially and yet regular customers are not even getting a crack at them. (yes, guess I'm a little jealous :) )

The King of Prussia store only had "1" left and Plymouth Meeting had "4" left as of 1pm today.

Re: the rattle. mine does this too. According to Logitech's FAQ here, this is normal.

Unlike others who are having good experiences, I'm still stuck dead in the water. With my setup the remote seems to issue several IR commands (e.g. always appears to send a "switch to input xxx" to my projector) for simple operations like "increase volume to my receiver" or any command to the DVR or Tivo. This naturally makes response time very high, and makes my PJ display the input on-screen needlessly. Logitech/Harmony support is aware of the issue and their engineers are apparently working hard as this is a known issue. Their support rep was quite helpful and knowledgeable, which is always refreshing.

I also reported the problem with the Mac software getting an error after 'rebooting the remote', they seem to be aware of that one too. I personally just click exit on the window right after that, and before it tries to re-update the remote, and it appears my updates take just fine.

So until they get a patch for this issue (or tell me what to do in the configuration to work around this), I'm reserving judgment on a 1-10 rating. Hopefully it'll be soon as I've been looking forward to this and don't want to have to send it back.

Same here on my Toshiba 34HFX84. The website had the 34HFX84 inputs all messed up when I added the device. Luckily the assistant helps get to the correct input for each activity. Will be calling support myself tomorrow.

So far I'd give it a 9. I'm also mad about the placement but then again I thought the same thing about my 659. It's just as easy to program and looks even better.

I agree with all the above! I give it a 9 thus far. This is my first Harmony. I was previously using a Radio Shack Kameleon.

I'd like to have more than the 16 favorite channels currently offered (add additional pages). Also, I'd like the favorite channels to show up immediately after pressing the "watch TV" activity. As it currently works, you have to press the Media button to access them. I downloaded the color DirecTV logos from the Remote Central files area & uploaded them (16 favorites) to the Harmony.

Any work around for getting the favorites logos to show up immediately after pressing the Watch TV activity? It currently shows a blank screen until pressing the Media button.

If my requests were granted, then I'd give it a solid 10!!!

I woudn't shake it too much. Since this thing has a tilt motion, I assume it has something to do with the rattling noise.

I give it a 10 for ease of setting the devices, but give it a 3 for how hard it is just to get the remote updated.

I just got mine in North Attleboro, MA I took a chance after seeing some posts that they had one and lucked out. it was on display in the remote section, there was only 1 there.

Well, I will close this thread for we really do not much care for people directing people to places for sales. :) After All, Best Buy could run ads here to help to support the site that is making them sales like this.

(Sad thing is that posts like this are sometime plants from manufactures and dealers to get the word out. They know that the AVS Forum members are the early adopters. Note...I am not saying this thread was started by a member with such direct ties. But it happens more than you think.)
