Normal is whatever the channel is, though it could be either 4:3 or 16:9.
Grey bars adds grey "pillar" bars left and right to soften when the original is 4:3.
The stretch mode is pretty linear so everyone looks fat and/or squat.
Partial zoom throws info away all around.
Zoom throws away more, but is useful when an SD channel is showing a 16:9 letterboxed show in its 4:3 window, pillar-boxed on my 16:9 set.
Normal is what I use most often, though sometimes grey is a nicer look on 4:3.
Full zoom is for 16:9 content on 4:3 SD channels, cuz I want a big picture.
Partial zoom is too much or not enough, so I don't use it.
I never use stretch. I'd rather have bars than visual distortion.
