As WS65711 already explained, the DHG can slice digital data just fine
. In fact, it has been able to do this all along. Even if you were still running on the original firmware version (1.05) it could process digital and receive the update patches. The only thing the firmware update to 1.21 did was eliminate the need to use the G* test to "kick start" the DHG to receive the digital stream.
Rovi sends out three different data download types throughout the day. ID70 contains listings data and is transmitted 8 times each day. The DHG has no problem receiving this data. That is why, if you already have a grid, your listings will continue to be updated for the full 8-day schedule.
The other two download types are ID81 and ID27. They are each transmitted 4 times each day. They contains various types of data needed to populate a channel list (which in turn creates a grid), along with other data such as time zone packets, station IDs, schedules, etc. The problem is that the DHG does not see/process these two download types. Because of that, the only way the DHG gets the info it needs to create a grid and set a host channel is through the one minute "data bursts" that occur twice an hour.Now here's the important part
. Since you have the "ear" of someone at Rovi/Sony, some of us think we know why the DHG doesn't process ID81 and ID27 data. Back in the analog days, it processed each of those download types. Each of those download types has a FLAG associated with it. The FLAG value for ID70 stayed the same for the digital stream as it was for the analog stream. The FLAG value for ID81 and ID27 changed so that the digital FLAG is not the same as the analog flag
. We think the fix may be as simple as the DHG software being updated to recognize the NEW flag value for ID81 and ID27.
