Finally some good news!
Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI), driving digital entertainment innovation, today announced that it will reinstate over-the-air domestic broadcasts of TV Guide OnScreen, its subscription-less program guide data service that was until recently carried by CBS affiliates throughout the United States. Introduced in 1997, TVGOS has since been embedded in thousands of televisions, VCRs and DVRs. Although plans to phase out TVGOS by April 13, 2013 were nearly complete, consumer backlash regarding the discontinuation of the broadcast data service led to a fresh analysis of market conditions and renewed negotiations with its broadcast providers. "The consumers have spoken, and as a result of their passionate disapproval, we are pleased to bring back TV Guide OnScreen broadcasts as part of our 'No DVR Left Behind' initiative" said Adam Simons, SVP, Sales and Marketing, Consumer Electronics, Rovi Corporation. Reinstatement will commence April 1, 2013 with the return of the necessary digital insertion hardware to CBS affiliates. Rovi anticipates that TV Guide OnScreen broadcasts will resume nationwide by May 21, 2013.
