I only have experience with CableCards in my own house with my own equipment. I can swap the cards from Device-A to Device-B at will, and do it quite often.
Again, the first time I did it I thought I was going to have to call Charter, but I was surprised to discover that it "just worked".
I have a question and am hoping that one of you might know before I run a test and lose my grid for good.
I have 2 DHG's here in MN (separate rooms), both are now ZIP 00000 and .13 firmware. Both have run over 1 month after I set the time and day-of-week using the OIM. Until recently both were CableCard. (It's been smooth s[n]ailing).
I picked up a used Tivo Premiere on eBay and placed it in the location with DHG #2. I decided that I would use only one CableCard in this location so I pulled the CC from the DHG while is was running, half expecting it to crash but that didn't happen. I planned to swap the card at Mediacom, however, it turned out to be a Multistream so I decided to try it in the Tivo and it worked (like many of you I expected to have to call Mediacom to pair it to other device but was pleased I did not have to).
I also expected my grid to disappear on the DHG but that didn't happen, either. The CableCard lineup is still in place, and I have been able to map the HD CableCard channels 802, 804, 804, etc to their QAM equivalents 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 and everything works including scheduled recordings.
I seem to remember that, back in the TVGOS days, the DHG would only use the CC lineup when the card was installed, and revert to a different (standard) lineup when the card was removed. Did I just dream this?
I'm also wondering if I will in fact lose the grid (or get a different one) if I reset the DHG. I'm not anxious to do this since my day and time are correct - but I know I'll have to do it some time.
