I did the 9012 reset at 9PM Wednesday (Click on Menu,Click on Format, hit numbers 9012 on Remote, Scroll Down to TV Guide and Click and Click on Reset To Factory Default)..
You will lose any scheduled recording times but not the recordings saved, so you will have to reschedule..
What I liked about this method was the fact that the unit does not reboot! So what you get by doing the reset early as you suggested was exactly 12:00AM (Thursday!) at exactly 9PM (My reset Time) on Wednesday zero seconds! In my opinion this makes the day of week a none issue for owner's of the DHG who want the correct day of week along with the correct time of day....
Before I did the izzy method for getting the correct time of day (freezes the internal DHG clock), I tweak the DHG to my correct configuration. You have to start the TV Guide program and input a Zip code, I entered 00000 as Mark suggested to keep the TV Guide program now defunct from looking for updates and garbage data..
I also stopped TV Guide from auto starting by clicking Menu, clicking recordings List, Left arrow to Setup, Down arrow to Change default options, click on it!, Click on General defaults, down to auto guide, right click to off! Down arrow to Done and away goes the Auto TV Guide!
I waited till 6:15 AM to do the izzy reset method (since I have 2 DHG's I did the 500 at 6:15AM and the 250 at 6:45AM to avoid confusion, and one unit had to be off while I worked with the other!)
Long Story On Method Made Short.
1. Hit Exit and TV Guide on DHG's Front Panel simultaneously! The Unit will Reboot!
2. Wait till the Unit is done rebooting and you see the dreaded --:-- on the unit before hitting the power button.
3. Hit power button, the unit will start up! If you are one of the fortunate that have a front panel clock (I lost FPC on both Units), the time showing on the front panel is your target time!
For the unfortunate ones that don't have a Front Panel Clock, hit record button once, clock on top left is target time in my case it was 9:00AM!. I hit TV Guide button once (I repurpose) to get out of that menu!
4. Hit Exit and TV Guide on DHG again to reset and freeze the clock and wait for target time to arrive before powering up the unit...
5. At 9:00AM and 15 seconds I powered up the 500 and at 9:00:25 the 250 this allows clock drifting..
In my case it was 9:00 AM, the unit seems to have fixed points of time it writes during an hour so 9AM and not 9:15 was the target time on both!..
I would suggest an hour apart for both units to avoid confusion, and getting the clocks within 10 seconds of target time....
I thought I would give out this info for all the EBAYer's who are getting DHG's dirt cheap! And to help out the casual readers of this forum who don't really want a recording time calculator for christmas or an excel spreadsheet!
Merry Christmas! (Next Wednesday! Hint!) To ALL!
